Voting 2025 theme

Background

The International organizing team for Wiki Loves Africa included in its 2024 survey, a specific question to determine what should be the theme for the 2025 (and perhaps 2026) iteration of the contest. Respondents provided feedback via the survey hosted on Qualtrix platform and emailed to WLA participants. Responses were collected and analyzed and condensed into 4 theme ideas by the organizing team.

This current stage of the community collaborative process consists to a voting by members of the community, prospective participants and stakeholders to help us make a final decision on what should be the theme for Wiki Loves Africa 2025 and 2026.

  • You must have an auto-confirmed account to vote. This is mandatory.
  • You may vote for several options.

2025 Theme options

Please note: after each proposed theme, there is a section for constructive discussion as to the benefits or concerns around each theme. Please engage with the proposed themes and share your thoughts with regards to perceived practicality and challenges. Please make sure you sign your comments with 4 x ~’s.

Option A: Farm to Plate

Competition scope: To include submissions of media that portrays fields, agricultural practices, farm products, farm machines, people farming, food transformation and processing, cooking, restaurants, dressing on plates, cooking material and the entire process (or a segment of it) that in consists of transforming farm produce into food.

Option B: Performance & Training

Competition scope: To include submissions of media that portrays sports, sport teams, sporting activities, Athleticism sport events, celebrations and festivals, as well as the equipment and effort that it takes to get to the competitive stage.

Option C: Trade & Commerce

Competition scope: To include submissions of media that portrays informal trade to financial markets including but not limited to coins, buildings, machines, financial transfers, Industry and commerce, investment, stock markets.

Option D: Bio-diversity

Competition scope: To include submissions that represent the diversity and richness of Africa's many bio and ecological elements, floral kingdoms, and its living fauna; to include media of animals and plants, as well as those that are involved in the husbandry, protection, destruction, etc. of these two subjects.

  32.   Oppose--Ce thème sera un peu difficile pour les participants en vidéographie car nécessitant des coûts de déplacement vers des zones champêtres, maraîchères et d’agriculture industrielle sauf pour des personnes habitant déjà dans ces zones.This theme will be a little difficult for participants in videography because it requires travel costs to rural, market garden and industrial agriculture areas except for people already living in these areas. I hear your concern Mansita Konaté and thank you for raising it! However, anybody entering the contest is welcome to focus on one or two aspect of the theme, for example, food preparation OR harvesting OR packaging, etc. it doesn't have to document the entire process. So, we don't see it as a limiting factor, more a way for people to be creative and concentrate on one element. We look forward to your beautiful films again.
