Kartor för kommuner i Skåne

Norrtälje kommun

Hej, jag ser att du skapar lägeskartor för skånska kommuner. Jag håller på att framställa lägeskartor för alla svenska kommuner enligt följande design (se bilden till höger). Alla som jag frågade, till exempel sv:Användare:Väsk, menade att vi kan ersätta alla kartor för Skåne med de nya. Så vänta bara ett tag, tills jag har skapad dessa. Det är ju alltid svåra bedömningar i sådana fall. Bilden består ju inte bara av planschen med Jim Morrison. Å andra sidan, alla bilder här ska vara användbara i något Wikimedia-projekt och vem är intresserad av en artikel om hur "Juntas" pojkrum ser ut? I see my error. The goal of that project was to eliminate adjectival forms that would be less commonly guessed at than the noun form. Since there is no real good noun form name that is known, I propose I revert it back to Sami people. Is that acceptable? -Mak 16:21, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Sure, it's important to get the images of EN Wiki since all to many people upload newer versions over images there rather than the Commons version. Also if it says "info on EN Wiki" rather than "originates from EN wiki" and a line about "feel free to integrate this info" then anyone who gets anoyed by the info can integrate it (if needed) and then clean the talk page =) /Lokal_Profil 20:27, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Efter att ha funderat pa det hela ett tag sa har jag kommit fram till att jag tillsvidare bor tacka nej. Anlednigen ar att jag hitintills bara har redigerat under examensperiod/sommaruppehall men inte under vanlig terminstid med forelasningar. Darfor anser jag att jag forst bor se om det fungerar att gora bagge saker och se om min aktivitet pa Commons sjunker. Om aktiviteten inte sjunkit om nagon manad (och om jag fortfarande ar intressant) sa tackar jag garna ja da.

Road signs

For sure I did not know about that becasue tha images were not tagged and looked as just another of the thousands of copyvios we have here. In addition I always check that the user has been notified of the problem, as I did in that case. In any case, deleted images can be restored or reuploaded if needed. Any admin can restore a deleted file, but in this case care should be take to tag them inmedialety (otherwise sooner or later other admin will be deleting them). If you can give me the list of files affected I can restore them, but they should be well tagged not to be deleted again. Barcex 12:32, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

I restored all the files, please tag them as soon as possible. I do not know about icelandic copyright law so I leave that details for you :) (Anyway, I'm not so sure that a derivative work from PD is also PD, but of course, there is no "added value" in this case to the original PD). Autotrace program

Jag körde med Inkscape fast I det fallet krävdes en del manuellt arbete med bitmappen eftersom vissa linjer blev så tunna så att de försvann i den vektoriserade versionen. // Liftarn

Inser nu i efterhand att du antaglighe gjorde en inverterad trace och sedan break apart.... Crosses in heraldry

What is a Cross Bottony etc. if not exactly a classic example of precisely a "Cross in Heraldry"?? Please give some plausible explanation of your actions, or I feel rather inclined to revert your edits wholesale. P.S. It's spelled "heraldic", not "heraldik"[sic]. Crosses in heraldry indicates a coat of arms with a cross in it. These images of crosses are cross symbols. Specifically they are cross symbols commonly used in heraldry and suitable for use by users designing own CoA's. They are therefore very suitable to be inte the category "SVG coat of arms elements". There is however nothing intrinsincly heraldic about the images. I have also linked to the categories Category:Cross symbols and Category:SVG coat of arms elements-Crosses from "Crosses in heraldry. Crosses in heraldry (continued) : Saltire / St. Andrew's cross

You deleted last night the link to the category Crosses in heraldry I had put on Category:Saint Andrew's cross - Croix de Saint-André. The aim of this last one was only to be a subcategory of Crosses in heraldry because some people consider saltires as a subtype of crosses (and this dependency can be useful for them to find what they look for), whereas in French crosses and saltires are considered on the same level, both as ordinaries. If you delete the dependency to Crosses, you delete the only reason for the category Saint Andrew's cross to exist.

To be consistent, I propose you chose one of the two following solutions:

1. ask for the complete deletion of the category Saint Andrew's cross - Croix de Saint-André as a useless copy of Saltires;
2. keep it as an help for those who look for saltires as a subcategory of crosses, and put back the dependency between the two categories.

Hej. Vi som laddade upp kyrkbilder bestämde oss för att bara kategorisera artiklarna och inte bilderna, för vi tyckte det gav bättre ordning. Det var väl user:Väsk som började med att ladda upp sina kyrkbilder hit, under 2005 eller så. Så vi har gjort så ganska länge, för då tänkte vi att man skulle ha antingen kategori eller artikel men att båda är onödigt.

Jag vet inte om det spelar någon roll egentligen. Jag tänker i alla fall själv inte ta bort några fler kategorier.

Hi,

I saw your edit on Image:Radical.jpg. I have uploaded this image from the English wikipedia a long time ago, where it was released under an appropriate license (GFDL I believe). However, I created an alternative svg version Image:Radical.svg, which is now used on all wikipedia's. Therefore, although your edit is incorrect, the image Radical.jpg can be deleted right now. Do I have to do something else to request a deletion?

The image is classified as without source because it doesn't state who made it. It might be that the english image page has/had that information but only an admin on en.wiki can investigate that. Kyrkliga vapen är inte registrerade hos Patent- och registreringsverket och skyddas alltså inte på samma sätt som kommunala vapen. Anledningen till att lagstiftaren inte gav Svenska kyrkan möjlighet till detta är förmodligen att man räknande med kyrkans skiljande från staten (Clara Nevéus, "Ny svensk vapenbok"). There are two ways of doing it. The first and easiest one is to ues Neuron, LangNeutral.svg and put the hebrew text in the caption. The other alternative is to open the svg file in a program like Inkscape and then remove the circles and add the text there instead. I'm not sure how well incscape deals with the hebrew font though so ou might have to convert the text to paths. Whichever you decide I'd be very happy if you added the hebrew translation to the Image:Neuron, LangNeutral.svg#Description section. /Lokal_Profil 21:13, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm afraid I didn't quite understand the first option. Do you mean it is possible to replace the baloons with a,b,.., g with labels in my native language? Or do you suggest that I write down under the image what each letter means?

My suggestion was something like what's to the left. I know that thats how for example the japanese.wiki uses it. If you want to change the letters to hebrew script then you'd need to open the image in inkscape and edit it and then reupload it under a different name. As far as I know there is no way to import the labels as parameters although if such a thing exists it would be very useful. /Lokal_Profil 10:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

That doesn't sound good enough for me. I'd rather the viewer wil see next to each part what it is instead of going up and down checking each label. Therefore, I'd rather it won't be replaced, as the replacement is not satisfactory.

I'll see if one of the Hebrew Wikipedians might know how to work inkscape and will be able to add the Hebrew labels to the image. Yuval Madar 19:35, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Ok. The only downside to adding the text directly to the image rather then the caption is that you can't wikilink from the words. If you need help adding the hebrew text you can always try User:Benherz or User:Mintz l who have both claim to be native hebrew speakers and good at vector graphics. /Lokal_Profil 19:44, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I saw your discussion at User talk:Juiced lemon. Commons:Categories#Category structure does not prevent an SVG map category from being categorized both by media type and topic. It says "All categories (except CommonsRoot) should be contained in at least one other category,"

Please also see w:Wikipedia:Categorization#Categories do not form a tree. It says "each category can appear in more than one parent category." It says "it may be convenient to think of parts of the category graph as being like multiple overlapping trees."

Re: County locator maps

Just in case you didn't see this (it is on one of my subpages), here is how I make my PNG maps. The census maps do not include the Canadian, Mexican and Russian borders, but the maps from the National Atlas do, so I get those borders there. I have not yet done five states (California, Alaska, Michigan, Washington, or Texas), so those would be a very good place to start making SVG maps, thanks! Ruhrfisch 02:03, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Kul att Wikipediadebatterna numer har spridit sig till en landets största tidningar. De har, tack vare din insats, gett Wikipedia ett erkännande genom att det anses värt att verifiera de faktauppgifter (om än grafiska sådana) som presenteras på Wikipedia. En fri tolkningar av vapnets blasonering är tillåten men inte det officiella vapnet eller en vektorisering av den. Undantaget är de vapen som anses vara för enkla för att vara skyddade av upphovsrätt.

Automatisk bildgenerering

Jo jag tittade på sidan och bilderna såg bra ut. Våran definition på % skilde sig något vilket gav lite olika färger och så var det ett omval som spökade (hade för mig att jag skrivit det till dig?). Hur som helst så ser det ut att vara precis den sorts generiering som jag efterfrågade. Min enda fundering är att de genererade SVG filerna (dvs. om jag går in på t.ex. [5] högerklickar och väljer visa kod) inte är stand-alone. Dvs. de kräver att php-scriptet tolkar hur klasserna ska färgläggas. Vet inte riktigt hur man kan kringå detta. Som det är nu så är klassen det samma som procenten vilket i en stand-alone SVG fil skulle innebära en tolkning per klass, jag antar att php scriptet däremot helt enkelt kollar innom vilka av gränsvärdena den ligger och tillger den färg därefter. Misstänker att en stand-alone SVG fil kräver att klassen för allla kommuner innom en viss procentgrupering är den samma så att det sedan bara behövs ett färgläggningskommando per klass. Humm... diskusionen lämpar sig nog bäst att forsätta på MSN elelr åtminstonne när jag sitter vid den egna datorn där jag kan exprimentera. Nar koden val ar skickad till lasaren sa sker ingen med exekvering av php-kod. Klasserna med procenttal anvande jag for att debugga och glomde ta bort. De paverkar inte fargerna. (testa att kopiera koden och spara lokalt). Undrar om excel kanske anda inte ar battre. Mer pa msn. japp, håller på och undersöker. svårt att hitta ordentlig dokumentation. det är möjligt att det har att göra med att mer specifika direktiv prioriteras över mer generella (om du stylar en grupp och sen stylar individuella element i gruppen så gäller det senare), vilket i och för sig oftast verkar vettigt. har hittat diverse sätt för dig att gå runt problemet, t.ex.

Om du specificerar ett objekt med calssen class="land ms", och sedan staller in .ms{ fill=red} eller natt sa fargar det det objektet rott (detta ar ju hur t.ex din IKEA karta ar gjord). Men om man gor samma sak med circeln dvs. class="small-country-circle ms" (dvs man ger bade land och cirkel klassen ms) och staller in .ms{ opacity=1 fill=red} sa blir inte cirkeln verken synlig eller fargad. Anda skillnaden jag kan se ar att land&cirkel i det senare fallet ligger i en grupp men detta borde ju inte paverka eftersom de bada har klassen (ms) direkt (snarare an som innan att sjalva gruppen hade det). /Lokal_Profil 15:05, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

När diskussionen har börjat slockna så stänger en admin den och kollar igenom argumenten. OM det inte finns någon enkel lösning så brukar de ligga öppet en längre tid eller möjligen stängas med "inconlusive". Om man anser att utgången inte överenstämmer med vart diskussionen höll på att mynna ut kan man ifrågasätta hur den stängdes så tittar anra till den. Huvudanledningen till att det inte är en omröstning är att det alltid finns massa idiotröster i stil med "sluta barnsla er såklart bilden ska finnas kvar", "bilden är snygg behåll den" eller bara "behåll" i en diskussion som försöker avgöra hurvida en bild bryter mot upphovsrätten eller inte. Det är ytterst få nomineringar som handlar om att någon inte tycker om bilden/tycker att den är fel, och sådanna leder nästan aldrig till radering (om det inte är medveten POV) typ att göra en karta över Gibraltar skriva spanien på den och ta bort gränsen till Spanien. /Lokal_Profil 23:20, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

I think I made mine because you haden't made maps for all of the states (at least I didn't find them). On one hand it's silly to have two almost identical images, on the other it does give the wikipedias a choice of colour. Thank you so much for your improvements to the map. Since I'm still relatively new at SVG, I couldn't get rid of all the superfluous stuff that Inkscape contributes (but I'm not surprised that it does) - I'm quite well versed in CSS, but don't know enough of it to handle cleaning up the map, so unfortunately all future corrections by me will have to be done in Inkscape (and since I essentially created the map, I'll probalby be adding corrections in the future.) Is there a tutorial out there for me to learn how to make the edits you make via a text editor rather than Inkscape, to prevent you having to come in and clean up my edits every time I make one? Om du använder "Upload work from Flickr" altenativet när du laddar upp en bild, så läggs automatiskt mallen {{Flickrreview}} till bildsidan. När den väl ligger där så går en bot igenom bilderna och dubbelkollar att licensen stämmer (och om botten misslyckas så går Flickr reviewers som jag in och kollar). Beror på hur du menar. Ja vem som helst kan skapa en kategori eller flytta en kategori men om det är en väldigt bred kategori så kan det ibland vara värt att diskutera saken innan. Vad gäller röra är jag inte säker på att jag håller med. Strukturen är i grunden rätt sund men självklart ju längre ut på trädet man kommer ju fler visna grenar finns det. ersatta eller skapa ny?

vad ar brukligt att gora nar man forandrar/forbattrar egna/andras bilder? har 2 konkreta exempel:

1: Om du jamfor de tva versionerna av Image:Human-styracosaurus size comparison.svg. Laddade forst upp den ena, men hittade senare en battre bild att traca. de tva versionerna ar ju ratt olika, men da den andra ar battre och bada var mina valde jag att ersatta, istallet for att gora en ny. hm. ett annat problem ar att bilden nu inte ar en svg version av png filen den skulle ersatta. hm...

2: Image:Laundry symbol dry cold.svg ar en raster bild sparad i svg format. har gjort en svg version, ar det ok att bara ersatta, da det inte finns nan anledning att anvanda den gamla. kan ju inte, som annars, andra filandelsen till svg och haka pa en supersededSVG?

Vad gäller nummer två så skulle jag bara ladda upp den nya versionen över den gammla och skriva in i kommentarfältet "proper svg without included raster image". Alternativt ladda upp en ny fil under ett nytt namn och märk den gamla med {{Superseded}} och {{BadSVG}}, på så sätt kan du skapa en bild med dig själv som upphovsmann och egen licens. Problemet är väll egentligen att dessa bilder är trademarked av Gintex. Kan faktiskt vara värt att ta upp detta på Vilalge Pump då det är diskutabelt om bilderna uppnår verkshöjd. Ifall du ändå bestämmer dig för att ge dig på att ladda upp nya så finns många riktiga svg versioner på de:Textilpflegesymbol (och här) och det finns många dåliga att ersätta på Category:Laundry symbol.

Vad gäller nummer 1 så om det är din bild så är det oftast ok att ersätta med den nya. Men det kan vaa värt att titta var den används först och se ifall storlek, bildkomentar etc. måste ändras där. Eftersom ersatta png bilder inte längre raderas så är det strunt samma om den och svg:n är identiska. Får du bara din bild "approved (på en.wikis dinoprojekt") så kan du utan problem märka pngn med superseded och ersätta användningen av den med din nya svg bild. Ifall någon skulle motsätta sig det så plockar de bort mallen och då kan du alltid lägga dit {{Vva}} istället. Jag brukar använda vva snarare än superseded när min bild är kraftigt annorlunda.

De är inte nödvändigtvis upphovsrättsskyddade, de är "tradmarked" (typ logo registrerad). En triangel eller en fyrkant med en cirkel och en prick i är inte tillräckligt originella för att uppnå verkshöjd alltså går de inte att upphovsrättsskydda. Däremot kan man fortfarande registrera dem som logotyper. Så problemet är enbart vad gäller avgörandet ifall en specifik bidl är tillräckligt avancerad för att uppnå verkshöjd dvs triangeln och torktummlaren gör det nog inte medans strykjärnet kanske gör det. ICH är generelt en sajt att lite på. Det viktiga i det här fallet är att kedjan och kronan inte ingår i skölden utan snarare är externa ornament. Alltså är en version utan dem också korrekt. Dessutom har jag raderingsmärkt Image:Coat of armes Rixensart.JPG som copyvio. Bra att du ger dig på hans sköldar med grå bakgrund. Ytterligare några finns på Category:Coats of arms of Belgium. Aha. Den vasentliga skillanaden ar att Commons bilden kommer fran en PD-Old kalla medans bilden i den grafiska profilen mycket ricktigt ar skyddad. Du kan forbattra den (men ladda da garna upp den under ett annat filnamn) sa lange du grundar forbattringen pa PD-bilden och blasoneringen snarare an Malmos grafiska profil. Med andra ord kan du omvandla den till en SVG bild och mojligen andra fargtonerna nagot men du brode inte forsoka gora gripen bistrare eller farga varannan fjader rod. Hejsan. Det gar ju framat med vepnen. Vet du nattt bra stalle dar heraldikterminologin forklaras pa ett bra satt. Skulle just ge mig pa "I fält av silver en av vågskuror bildad dubbel blå sparre, sänkt och störtad, däröver en röd gumse i hällristningsmanér.", och antar att i stort satt alla orden har speciell beydelse. Har ju gissat mig till vad vagskuror ar, och hallristningsmaner ar ju ratt sjalvforklarande. Men sparre, sankt och stortad later som de har speciell innebord. Gumse ar ett far, For vanliga haroldsbilder ar sv:Häroldsbild ratt bra dar kan du se att sparre ar en (sadan har), att den ar stortad betyder att den ar uppochner vand. Att den ar sanktbetyder att den inte skar igenom mitten utan borjar langre ner. sv.wiki ar ok for grundtermer men inte jattebra. Om det ar mer avancerade fragor sa kan man fraga pa Heraldica - Forum för nordiska heraldiker.

Har sett vissaav bilderna och gillar speciellt Sandvikens och Ockelbos vapen. En liten sak bara ar att man ofta sbor forsoka forstora objecten sa att de fyller upp mer av skolden. Sa i exempelvis ockelbos vapen sa skulle cirklarna vara lite storre och mer utspridda och hammaren borde stracka sig fran ungefar andra granen uppifran till toppen av andra nerifran. Kommer nog att peta lite pa Söderhamns och Nordanstigs vapen nar jag far tillbaka min dator. Andra i natet lite samt fixa till sa att bate blir ratt (har ju namnt att Nordisk familjebok fick en del saker om bakfoten).

Category heraldic images

Hi - I was browsing through the "Wanted Categories", and there is one that is called "Category:Heraldic images" with a large number of images. I am not sure where to fit them into the heraldry category. Would they be under "Heraldic figures", or is there a better place? Asking you as you seem to have experience in the field. Hi I honestly do not know. The whole Heraldic figures category is a mess in itself. All the subcategorise of it are limited to coats of arms with X in them but the main category Heraldic figures is filled wth all kinds of images that might relate to heraldry. For the batch of images in Heraldic images I'm pretty sure most/all of them are also in Heraldic figures so removing Heraldic images from them and thus depopulating the uncreated category shouldn't be a problem. Comming up with a sensible way of structuring Heraldic figures with sensible category names is on the other hand a huge task. /Lokal_Profil 23:04, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Det är bara att ersätta bilden med den fria och markera den ofria bilden med "orphaned fair use" (knapp till vänster). Du måste haft riktigt tråkigt inatt med tanke på att du producerat 7 vapen =) Har petat på två av dem (bakgrundsfärg och spegelvändt). Såg också att Uppsala vapen.svg skulle behöva en krona på lejonet. Är (som jag nämnde på din talk page) lite fundersam på hur fri figuren i Södertälje vapen.svg är. Det finns en artikel av Bengt Olof Kälde i Heraldisk Tidsskrift nr 35, 1977: "Svenska kyrkans heraldik". Han gör där en historisk genomgång av vapnen för samtliga stift inom Svenska kyrkan (inklusive stiften inom nuvarande finska evangelisk-lutherska kyrkan). Angående vapen för Stockholms stift inom Svenska kyrkan nämns inget annat än det vapen som antogs 1962. Jag kan alltså inte se annat än att det vapen som är aktuellt här endast har använts av det katolska stiftet. B****n 11:03, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Jag ser att du har anmält denna bild för radering. Nu är inte jag någon större expert på när något räknas som ett plagiat eller när något räknas som en egen tolkning. Jag har ju använt kommunvapnet som förlaga för att skapa bilden, men kommunvapnet är baserat på ett sigill från 1468. Jag har en bild på sigillet i en bok hemma, men min scanner har gått till de sälla jaktmarkerna och jag kan därför inte visa dig hur detta sigill ser ut. En bättre version av hur kommunvapnet ser ut mer i detalj finns här, där man kan zooma in för att få en bra storlek. Om man ska gå efter sigillet, vilket vore det mest korrekta, lämnas inte mycket kvar till tolkningar. Det skulle vara muren och murkronans utformning i så fall (murkronan kanske kunde tas bort?). Eftersom jag inte har sett sigillet sa har jag svart att utala mig. Men generellt sett sa maste bilden vara en fri tolkning av blasoneringen for att vara fri. Hej igen. Jag har nu gjort en ny version av vapnet och laddat upp den på Image:Coat of arms of Helsingborg, Sweden.png, jag ska bara fixa så att bakgrunden blir transparent. Jag har dessutom hittat en bild på sigillet som du kan se här. Den nya bilden är nu till största delen baserad på sigillet, dock är den "uträtad" då sigillet anpassades till sin runda form. Har gjort så att antalet fönster i de olika byggnaderna samt tornhuvens indelning är densamma som på sigillet, vilket skiljer sig från kommunens version. Dessutom har jag gjort mittentornet större, eftersom detta ska föreställa Kärnan och jag tyckte det borde vara mer framträdande. Korsen på de två tornen och de runda gluggarna nederst är nu mer baserade på sigillet. Skölden har jag hämtat från Image:Coa_(blank).png. MVH Jsdo1980 03:31, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Hej. Bilden ser jättebra ut och det är precis den typen av fria tolkningar som vi behöver. Jag har putsat till informationen på bildsidan för att ge alla källorna etc. Det ända som jag kanske skulle vilja är att du ändrar den vita bakgrundsfärgen i vapnet (dvs. silver) till den gråa färgen i exempelvis Nynäshamn vapen.svg. Detta skulle i så fall vara för att skapa mer enhetlighet mellan de olika vapnen. Men eftersom vit också är en korrekt färg för heraldisk silver lämnar jag det upp till dig. Do you mean Image:Marble Quarry, Thasos.jpg? I have no clue who owns the quarry but it looked desserted and I think I remember something about it having been closed down due to instability and landslides. It's about a year and a half ago since i took the photo so I'm not 100% but I think the quarry lies on the coast between panagia and makriamos. Mars/Venus symbols in heraldry

Hej, I noticed that when you had created these categories, you still had but put an explanation that these refer actually to iron/copper symbols in heraldry - in Swedish only, though. I am just wondering - as these seem to be only an element in Nordic heraldry - if those categories should be renamed to what you have originally stated and what they really are, i.e. Iron and Copper symbols in heraldry. I have already seen confusion of an South-European user, who thought these refer to astrology. I det har fallet (dar upladaren inte havdar att han ar upphovsman) ar det enklare. Eftersom en extern upphovsman och licens har angivits men det inte finns nagon länk (eller liknande) till att bilden slappts under den licensen kan man marka den med "no permission". Detta gor du antignen med lanken i verktygsladan (om du har en, kanske ar ett skript jag lagt in) eller genom att lagga {{subst:npd}} pa sidan. Maps and the people who make them

There was a time in that blur of late December 2007 in which I considered and even started to leave a well deserved compliment on the beauty of your maps. I started to learn how to use Inkscape with them; I would never be able to suitably express my appreciation of them. The Croatian Govenrment doesn't own the copyright - look at the explanation. This is a symbol of Croatia as are CoA and Flag of Croatia. They are not owned by anybody. In certain states and countries the Presidential Flag is changed from one person in office of the president to another person which adds something on the Flag of ones own. This is not the case in Croatia. The Presidential Flag of Croatia has been established in 1990-12-21 and is not like some countries that have flags of kings and princes that are their personal standards which are their possesion and their ownership. Kyrkor från STF1923

Funderar på om inte Image:Stapeln vid Arbr kyrka, STF1923.jpg m.fl bilder av samma fotograf skulle kunna gå under PD-Sweden istället för PD-Old, och i så fall inte behöva raderas. Vad tror du om det? Taxelson 18:32, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Problemet med PD-Sweden är i så fall att bilden inte får kvalificera som fotografiskt verk utan istället klassas som fotografisk bild för att vara fri. Och då blir det hela en debatt om vilka bilder som är vad. Själv anser jag inte att kyrkbilderna är fotografiska bilder men jag håller mede om att det är en knasig situation där STFs bilder klassas som fria tills dess att vi klurat ut vem fotografen är då de plötligt blir ofria. Det idealiska vore väll egentligen att kontakta STF (eller nån i deras arkiv) och kolla upp fotografer samt dödsdatum. /Lokal_Profil 21:34, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Det där med "fotografiskt verk" och "fotografisk bild": Jag kan inte de juridiska definitionerna (de känns inte helt glasklara, men jag kan ha fel), men att exempelvis ett porträttfoto är ett verk är väl helt klart, ett foto av en växt eller kanske en kyrkointeriör i vissa fall kräver att man ordnar med lämpligt ljus, kanske flyttar undan saker (arrangerar), också är "verk" håller jag med om. Men korten på klockstaplarna i befintligt dagsljus? Den största arbetsinsatsen torde ha varit att ta sig till platsen och ställa upp kameran. Kameravinklar och liknande på den typen av objekt är ofta ganska givna - det finns ett fåtal möjliga alternativ. Vem som helst med en hygglig kamera och någon kunskap om fotografering hade kunna ta dem. Jag menar därför att det för dessa utomhusbilder bör gå att argumentera för att de är "bilder" snarare än "verk". Men detta är kanske något som i så fall borde diskuteras på mer allmän plats, Bybrunnen t.ex (snarae än på bildernas diskussionssidor?), eller vad tror du? Taxelson 14:18, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Maybe it should be even Image:Orange_copyright.svg thus the name of the template would change and would be simply FOTW.

Has the template indicated that the use is free - no it has not. We have pictures in that Category:Custom license tags that also prevent commercial use or alteration. We have even banknotes and coins. Why not this template, FOTW Disclaimer and Copyright policy allows that. It is only the matter of wording. Why has Zscout370 not left you to see how the template has been very carefull in selection of words, in selection of the category and other appropriate symbols. I think that this is the case of conflicting interests. I have not saved my work on the template because not expected to meet such opposition. I take it that the first name should be in green and the second in orange?

If you want to try fixing it yourself then all you need is a texteditor which can handle large textfiles (without adding junk code) e.g. Word Pad and the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2-code of the countries. If you then save Image:Germany Japan Locator.svg (need to save the actual file not the png thumbnail) and open it in your text editor you should se a two lines which say

  .jp { fill: #e3801c; }      /* Japan */
  .de { fill: #3c9d3c; }      /* Germany */

if you replace then replace "jp" by the isocode of the country you want in orange, and "de" by the iso of the country you want in green.

So far I've only done Canada-UK since this one has an extra part due to UK (in the widest sense) containing several different iso codes (e.g. falkland islands etc.). If you have any troubles just give me a shout. /Lokal_Profil 02:04, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Either you enter the image name using the "map=" parameter or (if the image name is correct up to the file extension) you just set the parmaeter "filetype=svg". Not apart from changing the template to have svg as default, might be worth it if you are converting all of the existing maps (~650 650 pages, many don't have images). No. Not sure how that would be done since the image page would be "dead" even if the image exists on Commons. But there might be a way, as I said someone on one of the village pumps might be able to sort it. Alternatively you could maybe create a list of all articles using the template and then remove the few which corresponf to currently existing svgs. (removed indentation, was getting silly) ok, think i've found a way to make a list of all linked, but non-existing maps. (for reference, i took the list of all articles using the template, used the wiki export function to get an xml file with all those articles and parsed it for links to the maps. then i made a new wikipage with links to all the images and tada! the non-existent ones can be read of in beautiful red (the other ones show up as actual images.) so. next problem is how to edit all these articles to link to svg images. maybe avb? i know i need permission to use it, but can i use it without editing even if i don't have permission? No. AWB will refuse to run at all on en.wiki unless you get a permission to run it. Same thing here on Commons. On sv.wiki you can run it without any problems though if you want to get a hang of it. been trying to think of a solution to this conundrum. the most efficient solution would probably be to make all new svg's and change the template. i suspect this might piss some people off so maybe the easiest way forward is to just make a load of png that will respond to links already in place, not change anything in the articles and let that be that. for something like this, downstream flexibility is probably best achieved by going back to either the blank svg and/or by regenerating the whole lot if needed. /Marmelad 20:17, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

the vast majority. out of 511 templates with not extra options (so linking to the standard png file), only 74 are missing. (though some of the current pngs are a bit ugly. a lot of them are zoomed in though, for eg two european countries which is probably a good idea.) /Marmelad 09:35, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I was thinking about the same thing. I'f you add a small map of the whole world with the zoom highlighted it might make things better, i.e. like Image:Albania Turkey Locator.png and Image:Mapa Cor-de-Rosa.svg. You can use a (shrunk) clone of the world map for the small map so it shouldn't add on much code. It is an added hassle however and as far as uniformity goes I'm not sure which is best. I haven't found any law suggesting that they are. CoA being PD is limited to a few countries (Germany, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Estonia, Russia etc.) in most other countries they are copyrighted as original artwork. The blasoning is most likely PD though so indeoendent interpretations of the blasoning (i.e. not of the official illustration of the coat of arms) could be made free. /Lokal_Profil 16:23, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

(unless I'm missremembering) It was a direct derivative of Image:Zimbabwe Bird.gif which was created by Vector-Images.com. Since Vector-Images.com's images have been found to be unfree then so (by extension) are all derivative works based on their images. /Lokal_Profil 16:45, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry that was my misstake. Image:Zimbabwe Bird.gif comes from FOTW which is another unfree website. Your image Zimbabwe Bird.svg is a direct derivative of the image used in the official flag (e.g. Zim-flag-detail.jpg) which, unless specifically stated otherwise, is copyrighted. Thus by extention your image is a copyvio. As far as there being no copyright on the design: it's true that the original stone carvings aren't copyrighted but 2-D representations of them are likely to be copyrighted, also there are many different ways of drawing it (as can be seen from [11], Image:Flag of Zimbabwe.svg and also the discussion on your talk page). /Lokal_Profil 20:53, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

So what you are saying is that there is no possible way to claim an image I drew myself using Inkscape as my own because a design with no copyright due to the author being dead for over 500 years has a copyright because someone else has drawn a picture of it elsewhere which in my mind is a ridiculous conclusion to come to. What I'm saying is that if you redraw a copyrighted image (or happen to draw an identical image to one which has been drawn before) then you don't get to claim copyright for it. The process of vectorising an image does not (although it requires skill and time) add any originality to it and originality is the basis of copyright in almost all countries. As an example the Statue of Liberty is no longer copyrighted but my drawing of it would be, if you then draw the same drawing as I did then thats an unlucky coincident. Well how the hell can one draw an image based on another image and say "I didn't copy it therefore I havn't breached copyright"? Anyone can come along and say "I drew that first therefore you breached my copyright by making a derivative work". Simply, by your logic no one can draw anything on the basis that someone may have drawn it first and therefore a copyright has been breached. The image is under Copyright of the Free State of Anhalt, which does not exist any more. Saxony-Anhalt ist the successor to Anhalt and the Prussian Province of Saxony. So these CoA are historic and under public law, as ordinary arms of Germany, too. I've read the page that you've linked me but it's not so clear and simple to explain.

It starts with:

Then, there's a few emails where a site release the rights of the Coat of Arms by the administrator of a site that says that's enough if the author are quoted (but I think that's needed also the authorisation). Sorry, but I'm not an expert of the coats of arms, and there's a lot of things that aren't so clear about them (a lot are under fair use on it.wiki but here are under GFDL). As far as I know, GFDL requires any derivative works to be licensed under the same license, i.e. GFDL. Hi. Yes you are probably right. The reasoning that I have used before though is that Image:Blank US Map.svg is in fact a derivative of Image:Electoral map.svg and all of the elements I've used in have in fact remained unchanged from Image:Electoral map.svg. That said yes it's probably best to change the license to GFDL or "redo" the map based on Image:Electoral map.svg (which would mean repeating the same work as before with exactly the same result). I've contacted the creator of Image:Blank US Map.svg (again) to ask if he would consider dual-licensing the image and until I hear from him (or a sutiable tiem has passed) I'll leave the image as it is. You can only center the map on a specific longitudinal line, not on a latitude/parallel line. Assuming that you've got python and the two necessary tools installed and that you are running Windows all you need to do is open the MS-DOS prompt (or whatever it is called now) and go inte the python directory and enter:

python Scripts/nugsl-worldmap -o OUTPUTNAME.svg -t rotated -m 75E

Then open the created svg file in Inkscape say and center the image in the viewbox. I hope that helps. /Lokal_Profil 16:50, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I recently took a look at this image and it shows that you are the author of it, so I thought I would let you know and hopefuly you could fix it. What's wrong with it? Well, according to the map, PEI is listed as one of the provinces that had legalized same-sex marriages before bill C-38 on July, 20 which made is legal across Canada. Which isn't so, PEI was not one of the provinces that individually legalized it like Quebec or BC did. so I thought I would let you know about it and hopefully you could fix it. rotera kartor

Haj. Att klippa bort saker som hamnar utanfor en ruta verkar funka hyffsat nu. Men har problem med sjalva kartroteringen. Far bara det att funka nar jag anvander kartan som kommer med, men den har en massa inkscape skrap. Kan du rotera fran en ren nerladdning av blankmap? (forst klagade den pa att den inte hittade havet. en undersokning av koden visade att det beror pa att den bara letar efter dubbla citattecken, medan blank anvande enkla. Jag har jobbat med egna kartor. Specifikt så gjorde jag först en rotering och sedan en utplattning. Eftersom programmet bara tillåter ett steg i taget så var jag tvungen att ladda in kartan efter första steget i programet, den innehåller ju visserligen all inkscape junk code. It depends on the program you've been using. Since you seem to be using Corel Draw (or som other corel product) the straight forward ways of highlighting an object and checking it's "fill parameter" won't work. Instead you have to which class an object has, e.g. fil0 str0and then go into the style part of the code to see what these correspond to, e.g. .fil0 {fill:#00923F}. For this particular image I give the colours and their hex codes below:

In general I'd recommend using a program like en:Inkscape instead since it gives you a larger control of the code in the image (making it easier to find and fix afterwards). Alternatively for some images (like derivatives of e.g. Image:Map of Russian subjects, 2008-03-01.svg) you can use a text editor although this requires some knowledge of svg code. Hope the above helps.

Hi Lokal Profil. I know you are clued up on copyright guidelines etc and I was wondering if you could give a bit of advice on this matter. The vector version of the Coat of Arms of Iceland is up for deletion for some reason - I'm rather unsure about - but I believe it has been made in the same way as all the other COAs and flags that are "allowed" on the wiki. It was made by me through the Graphics Lab on English Wikipedia exactly how every other vector image has been made through that project so I don't see where the problem is for this image. Svensk översättning till Dagens bild 12 juni

Är du säker på att myran på Image:Formica cf lugubris 3.jpg är av arten Formica polyctena (på svenska kal skogsmyra)? Bildnamnet och den tyska beskrivningen anger arten Formica lugubris (hårig skogsmyra). Jag vet inte så mycket om myror, men myran på bilden ser i alla fall lite hårig ut. /Ö 21:18, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Vet itne heller något om myror, valde Formica polyctena eftersom det var det som alla översättningarna sa då (kan ha missat den tyska). Dessutom så är bilden i Formica polyctena galleriet. colour blindness

Just had someone point out that the colours used in the bilateral maps are very hard to distinguish for people with certain types of colour blindness. Do you know if there is a project here on commons addressing issues related to colour blindness? If not, perhaps you could help me start one? Like me, I suspect most people simply don't think about the issue at all. I know that there has been talks about colours on en:Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Maps. And also to some extent on en:Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/Images to improve. There might also be something about it on Commons:Project Mapmaking Wiki Standards. User:Samulili also created Template:Colour blind so (s)he would probably be a first starting point. map question

I am in need of having a map that includes much of that whole chunk of land which spans between England and Japan broken into smaller pieces. The technical language for this is probably: "I need a map that has China and Russia broken into third level political divisions."

Where should I go to request such a map? And, if you are in the mood to give me the answer "Go to hell!", that would be fine as the last time I was in the hell that I know, it was nice. Not sure where you would get such maps. 2nd level maps are on Commons for both China and Russia but 3rd level... Acording to rumors (i.e. a link on the appropriate en.wiki article) this page is supposed to have maps of China at 1st to 3rd level, however it is in Chinese. You can always try and request an image at the en.wiki or commons graphic labs but there are no guarantees. /Lokal_Profil 21:52, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

All is more than I want. For species range maps, just China and Russia. I tried to put that map of Russia onto that world map -- I am not so good with inkscape that I could curve it correctly. I made a map with that part of the world between England and Japan with Russia divided into three or four (they have had to divide it themselves! I have found divisions into 4 and into 8 (economic area or something for that latter division). To say that a species is found in Croatia (which is not so small) and in Russia -- it just doesn't work. In that same world map, United States and Canada have a lot of area as well -- as you hinted at and now that I think of it.

That is very true =). The main problem with putting maps together is that different projections means that there is no easy way of curving one map to fit into the other. I've long thought of the best way to do range maps. Probably it's to just do a semi-transparent blobb on top of a world map and then do some clipping so that the areas in the sea are removed. Haven't tried it but I'm guessing it sounds easier then it is. For the US there is Image:USA Counties.svg which is always an overkill. At some point I should really convert maps such as Image:Trillium undulatum in the USA.svg to use that map since the USDA Plants Database has information on a county basis. /Lokal_Profil 01:00, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Heh, that counties map is really something! I am having problems making it easy to make range maps for the world via areas that are sized between second level political divisions and states/provinces. The United States has somewhat logically gridded subdivisions, as has Africa. I really need Russia and China to be more subdivided on the world map before I can start to think about county level distribution of plants and varmits. Empty COA?

Image:Coats of arms of None.svg

Is there such a thing as an "empty" COA or an image saying "no free representation of this excists" or such? Some templates in Norwegian (and probably other languages as well) returns "This country/city/whatever doesn't have a COA if there is no image link, which is wrong in cases where a COA exists but is not licensed for free use. The questions are about cause and effect in the not so natural world. The map of the United States that was divided into counties was very similar to the need of an editor to put the word "the" into a tree that I am making.

To not communicate and to keep up with an offensive action until the person who is trying to communicate is reduced to suggesting that there is a learning disabled person running things (or similar summaries) is kind of an old routine which would kind of resemble the inclusion of a map which has been divided into counties to a person who is requesting a map of a huge area be broken into smaller portions.

I think I said something about being a trouble maker, so when I had a trouble maker, I came here.

Problem med svg-bilder

Hejsan. Du har ju jobbat en del med svg-bilder, så jag undrar om du kan hjälpa mig med ett problem jag har. Jag skulle ladda upp ett förslag till Wikiboken om fåglar i svg-format, men inga inklippta bilder kom med i överföringen. Jag har raderingsanmält bilden, men har den inte tagits bort kan du hitta den på Image:Wikibok1_framsida_med_rygg.svg. Problemet ar att du har lankat till bilderna snarare an infogat dem. Eftersom fotobilderna anda inte ar i vector format sa finns det ingen bra anledning att anvanda svg (de har ju anda begransad upplosning) rekomenderar darfor att du istallet laddar upp bilden som png fil i hog upplosning. Du kan anvanda Inkscape for att exportera filen till png gformat (Export Bitmap). Alternativt om du vill behalla svg formatet sa tror jag att kommandot som behovs ar effects/images/embedd all images men jag ar inte saker. /Lokal_Profil 01:15, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Request for bilateral maps

Hi, I've been moving a few of the bilateral relations articles over on Wikipedia, and in some cases this requires replacing the old maps. Specifically, I need maps for:

• Slovenia–South Korea relations
• Russia–South Korea relations (already has a map, but it's not the standard format)
• Republic of China–South Korea relations
• South Korea–United States relations
• North Korea–Russia relations
• North Korea–United States relations
• Mongolia–North Korea relations
• People's Republic of China–North Korea relations

I don't have the first clue how to make these myself, but I believe you're the person to ask. In some cases the countries are quite small and difficult to see – is it possible to have them circled, as in Image:Cyprus South Korea Locator.svg?
