Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:10, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Afghan flag
[edit]You have uploaded this flag File:Flag of Afghanistan (1992).svg which is very similar to this unofficial one File:Flag of Afghanistan 1992 provisional.png (just change the colors), you should also upload an svg of the second flag. Antemister (talk) 17:23, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

According to the depictions in Guide to the Flags of the World by Mauro Talocci, revised and updated by Whitney Smith (ISBN 0-688-01141-1), p. 121, the name of the country was written under the eagle on the coat of arms -- see File:Coat of Arms of Egypt within the Federation of Arab Republics.svg -- but not on the flag. AnonMoos (talk) 04:39, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- FOTW specifically says that the name of the country was on the flag in Egypt but not in Syria. [1] [2]. They cite Flags Through the Ages and Across the World, also by Smith. (ISBN 978-0070590939). Orange Tuesday (talk) 03:15, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- I checked out the Talocci book today. The description of the flag doesn't specify whether or not the country name is there, and the two illustrations contradict each other. There's no country name on the big painting of the flag, but if you look on the little flat illustration in the corner it actually does have the country name on there. Given the other sources that support the name being on there, I think maybe the person who was doing the painting just accidentally omitted it. Orange Tuesday (talk) 19:00, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

It seems you have vector data for parts of that file. Can you provide them to me?--Antemister (talk) 21:34, 13 February 2012 (UTC) The emblem was drawn now...--Antemister (talk) 21:58, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
- Oh sorry. Totally missed this message. I lost all that vector stuff in a hard drive crash anyway. Orange Tuesday (talk)
- I tried myself to draw such an image, a variant of File:Emblem of the Tuvan People's Republic (1926-1930).svg [3][4] (left). I assume that this version (the only difference is the blue background and the the partly green wreath of wheat) was an earlier version of File:Emblem of the Tuvan People's Republic (1926-1930).svg, introduced in 1926. You find it here de:Datei:Wappen Tuwa 1930.svg. Can you improve it?--Antemister (talk) 22:09, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
- Is done now.--Antemister (talk) 21:16, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

File File:Afghanistan arms 1974-1978.svg was derived from your File:Flag of Afghanistan (1974–1978).svg and than deleted for using wrong PD-Afghanistan license. I was thinking about undeletion request; however I wanted to check with you first about the source of the seal on File:Flag of Afghanistan (1974–1978).svg. What was it based on? --Jarekt (talk) 12:47, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- I traced the seal from an image on FOTW: [5]. Orange Tuesday (talk) 22:05, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
