The image in question is not a self-created image; it is a copyrighted image. The individual [1] who "created" this file lifted the image from Sharks: Silent Hunters of the Deep (pg. 25), copyright 1986 by Readers Digest Services Pty Ltd, Surrey Hills, NSW 2010. The only difference between the two is the removal of the detail found in the book; otherwise, the actual outlines as well as the labels remain the same. 99.116.69.198 20:08, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- Comment This is an interesting case, and I'm not sure what to make of it. If the images are faithful reproductions of the shapes of shark fins, I don't see how they could be subject to copyright. It would, however, be best to indicate the book they came from in the metadata, if that is the case. -Pete F (talk) 16:22, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Deleted: Pete -- consider that your reasoning would prohibit copyright on any "faithful reproduction" of an animal or anything else. Copyright prohbits copying, and that is what our uploader apparently did here. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 15:11, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
