הערות: מתוך סדרת נופי צומח פרחים של עוזי פז. גיאופיט נמוך חסר גבעול. הוא דומה מאוד לכרכום דמשקאי. הוא פורח בסתיו ללא עלים בפרחים גדולים (אורכם 6 ס"מ), היוצאים ישר מהקרקע. פורח בין נובמבר לינואר. הפרח נכון, זקוף, יוצא ישר מן הקרקע, חלקו התחתון נותר טמון באדמה. גדל בארץ ב-2 אוכלוסיות מנותקות: האחת בקרקעות בזלת בגולן; והאחת במרומי הר הנגב בסלעי גיר ברום 800 מ' ומעלה.בעולם העתיק שימש הכרכום כצבע צהוב משובח ויקר לצביעת מזון ואריגים.
