S. F. Hoerner indique, p. 3-28 de son ouvrage Drag[1], que le de culot de l'hémisphère plein vaut 1,14 à lui tout seul ; ce qui signifie que l'avant- corps (l'hémisphère proprement dit, sans son culot) suscite une traînée presque nulle...
Le du cylindre présenté axialement diminue, pour des Reynolds assez grands, lorsque son élancement L/D croît au-dessus de 1,6 : la raison en est qu'à partir d'un certain Reynolds, il se produit un rattachement (recollement) de l'écoulement sur la partie proprement cylindrique (à ~ 1,5 ou 1,6 D en arrière de la face plate) (à ce propos, voir cette image).
Lorsque l'élancement L/D croît encore au-dessus de 1,6, le augmente du fait de l’accroissement de la surface mouillée.
On relève par exemple les valeurs suivantes :
L/D = 2, = 0,85
L/D = 4, = 0,87
L/D = 7, = 0,99.
Pour ce cylindre court d'élancement L/D = 1, on admet généralement le de 0,91. Si le cylindre est encore plus court, son se hisse vers celui du disque (1,15).
