Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde 1897 verliehen. Das sogenannte Schwanenwappen ist mit dem Beginn des 15. Jahrhunderts nachgewiesen. Rot symbolisiert das kaiserliche Rotsiegelprivileg, das Zwickau 1473 durch Friedrich III. (HRR)Kaiser Friedrich III. verliehen wurde. Türme, Mauer und Wasser symbolisieren die Stadtbefestigung sowie die Lage an der Zwickauer Mulde.
English: The arms were granted in 1897. They had been shown first in the early 15th century. The meaning of the swans is not rightly known, but it was probably based on the legend of Cygnea. The fortification above the water stands for the importance of the city by the river Zwickauer Mulde
