Jean Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau (1725-1807). Né à Vendôme en 1725, second fils d'une famille de noblesse terrienne, promis à l'état ecclésiastique, ne devient soldat qu'en raison de la mort de son frère aîné. C'est ainsi qu'à seize ans, il se retrouve sur le champ de bataille. Sa vie est consacrée aux batailles dont la plus glorieuse est celle de Yorktown, décisive pour l'Indépendance des Etats-Unis, Rochambeau commandait alors une armée de 6000 hommes. Condamné à mort sous la Terreur, la chute de Robespierre le sauve. Napoléon le fait Grand officier de la Légion d'honneur en 1804. Homme représenté en buste avec les armes de sa famille portant la devise "vivre en preux et mourir" ; il porte le cordon bleu de l'ordre du Saint-Esprit, la croix de l'ordre de Saint-Louis suspendue à un ruban couleur feu, l'insigne de Cincinnatus et la plaque de chevalier de l'ordre du Saint-Esprit.
