DescriptionSeal of the Boston Public Library.svg |
English: The rarely used seal of the Boston Public Library, as it appears in print; the symbol of the two youths, dolphins, and shield appears above many of the entrances of the McKim Building as well as in bronze embedded in the marble floor of its lobby.
The motto inscribed on the banners at the top of the seal reads Omnium Lux Civium, or translated- "Light to All Citizens". The creator of the seal, emminent American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens described it as follows[1]
