Between January 2001 and July 2003, IU Vienna was accredited as a [[private university#Austria|private university]] by the accreditation council of the Austrian government. The initial accreditation had been granted only for a period of three years due to concerns on some critical issues (recruitment of scientific staff, research, library). In April 2011, [[bankruptcy]] proceedings were initiated against IUV.
