Several of the original commercials were produced in Japen with the the creator spending several weeks on site in Japen. I tried to find any additional sources for the claim about being produced in Japan, but wasn't able to find them. I would love to get a more definitive answer on this than 1 NYT link and one reference to Unwrapped, but haven't found it yet.
