In the Show's first and fourth seasons (when Van Partable was the showrunner), Johnny was a tad smarter and wasn't a complete doofus and was able to react with clever quips. For example in the episode, "TheBearly AisleEnough ofTime", MixedJohnny Upwas Toys"successfully able to cleverly trick Chronos the characterTime ofBear. AngeloAfter askedChronos told Johnny whathe hishad name20 wasminutes to put him to sleep, which heJohnny repliedwas able to Johnnydo thatwith hejust woulda befew seconds left, Chronos woke up a few seconds later because of the loud alarms and said that "Johnny's Nothing"time towas whichup but when Johnny repliedtold withthe "Wowbear he still had 12 minutes left (pointing to the VCR), Chronos said that wasn'twas veryjust cleverthe VCR to which Johnny made his escape."
