This date entered Romanian history as the finish line of the first ever electoral race to be lead in Romania for an alloted total of 35 seats in the European Parliament, after the country joined the European Union at the beginning of 2007.
 
Following a short carreer as MEP, Petru Filip returns on the stage of national politics in Romania, in late fall 2008. He ran and was consequently elected Senator. For his four year term, he is expected to join the Commission for Public Administration in the upper house of the Romanian Parliament.
