- Golfers with existing pages to expand and/or reference and/or cleanup: Ben Crenshaw (references, cleanup); Jonathan Kaye (expand, cleanup); Tom Kite (cleanup); Bruce Lietzke (add references); Davis Love III (references, cleanup); Moe Norman (references, cleanup - much fluff exists and incorporate career highlights into prose); Scott Simpson (golfer) (add references- use the USC reference on Stadler's page)
- Non-bio golf pages to do or work on: San Francisco Open - reference [8]contains a lot of good information; create List of golfers to win their debut Champions Tour event (Wikitable:name|year|tournament name|runner(s)-up|comments)

Golfer page cleanup/WikiGnome duties
edit- Watch for the use of redundant qualifiers attached to present tense verbs that need no qualification. e.g. Nicklaus currently holds the record...--> Nicklaus holds the record...
- Common nicknames aren't needed in the nickname section of the infobox (e.g. Kenny <--> Kenneth)
- User:Carptrash has a compilation of 23 POV/weasel words to BOLO for in the first section of his userpage.
Editing Reminders
edit- Place these at the top of the article or section
- Use {inuse} (while actively editing new articles) so those well meaning but annoying people who monitor new page creation will not destoy subsequent edits, and {underconstruction} (for brief periods between major edits during the construction phase)
- Use {merge} for short articles --> merge into a larger one
- Use {npov} for bias; also used are {POV-section} and {POV-intro}
- Use {Inappropriate tone} and/or {Copyedit} for amateurish, poorly-worded articles
- Use {Expert-subject|subject name (e.g. military history)|date} when article needs expert attention
- Use {reqphoto} on the talk page to request photos be placed in articles
- Use {expandsect} when a section requires expansion
- Use {prune} when an article or section needs condensing, summarizing or reconstructing

- Use {refimprove} for lack of verifiability
- Use {ibid} when Ibid. and loc. cit. appear in footnotes
- Use {cleanup-refs} when footnotes are of inconsistent style
- Use {cleanup-link rot} when bare urls are used rather than proper in-line citations
- Use {cleanup-rewrite} when article does not comport with Wikipedia's quality standards

- Use {citations broken} to tag an entire article or section in the same manner {dead link} is used as an individual tag
- Place these in-line
- Use {fact} for citation needed, {cite quote} for a quote needing a citation and {failed verification} for not in citation given
- Use {dubious} when something just sounds too much like a crock

- Use {says who} in similar instances as above where no source is mentioned
- Use {weasel words} for evasive, ambiguous, misleading content
- Use {lopsided} when an opinion needs balancing

- Use wiki markup {DEFAULTSORT:Last name, First name} instead of the name in each Category --> for people with last names beginning with McXyz use Macxyz (e.g. McMiller -->Macmiller)
- Don't forget to put in a colon between User:Hokeman/Sandbox N (otherwise it will appear in mainspace).
- Category:Possibly living people is for 90+ only (per MOS)
- Remove non-disambiguating wikilinks on disambiguation pages (per MOS)
- Put redirects in bold rather than as an internal link in articles (per MOS).
- Edit summary concepts: More precise link, rv unexplained removal of content, amplification, clarification, refinement, gen. fixes, replaced dead link with viable one, minor copyedits, wikilinks, improved chronological flow of information, major reorganization/left original text, added hatnote (short notes placed at the top of an article), catsort (rearr. categories to comport with sequence recom. by MOS)
- Useful Wiki stuff: Wikipedia:Manual of Style; Wikipedia: Citation templates; Wikipedia:Citing sources; Wikipedia:Footnotes; Wikipedia:Hat collecting; Template:disambig - more of this is on User:Boing! said Zebedee under the heading Stuff for Reference; User:Truthanado also has a lot more of this useful stuff on his or her user page.
- Don't forget 3RR (An editor must not make more than 3 reverts on a page within a 24-hour period)
- Templates used in vandal control: {uw-vandalism1|article} (reference the specific article) through {uw-vandalism4|article} up to {uw-vandalism4im}; try warnings first, but if these don't work or something requires immediate attention ---> Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. New Orleans museum ship
editRe: In 1992, during a visit to New Orleans, I took a river tour. I noticed, on the opposite bank a mile or so upriver from the city, a WWII Escort "Jeep" Carrier . The tour guide said that it was in the process of being turned into a memorial/museum. I saw some photographs of New Orleans- post Katrina. I didn't see the ship. Whatever happened to it?Hokeman 18:17, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
- I dont know of this - what is a WWII Escort "Jeep" Carrier? - is it a Landing craft tank or smaller like a LCVP? May be able to track it down still. - mervyn 12:04, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
An escort or "jeep" carrier was the smallest type of aircraft carrier used in WWII. They were used primarily for convoy escort duty in the Atlantic; although a few were also used in the Pacific. Some fought heroic actions (e.g. Taffy 3 in the Battle of Leyte Gulf.) I have tried everything I could think of to find that ship- internet searches, looking through old photo albums- to no avail. I still need to hear from my buddy who went on the trip with me to see if he has any photo's. If I find out anything, I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your help.Hokeman 17:21, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
