It is home to The Armour Centre, formerly the Royal Armoured Corps Centre and includes Allenby Barracks and Stanley Barracks. Bovington Tank Museum is adjoining.

The camp is a fully functioning barracks or garrison town which includes school buildings and service family accommodation. The camp includes Bovington Training area, a comparatively small area of forestry and heathland which the British military use for minor training exercises. This area is often hired out to Army and Air Cadets from Dorset as part of their fieldcraft exercises.
