Question from Rockstargroup (14:47, 21 October 2024)
editHi. How do I change my username please? --Rockstargroup (talk) 14:47, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Rockstargroup: Hi. Generally, the username change process is described at WP:CHU. But given that you have total of three edits, having a clean start is a better way. Simply log out of your current account, wait for a 2-3 days (a week is preferred), then create a new account with preferred username, and never log back to "Rockstargroup" account. Having multiple accounts is generally not a good idea, see WP:Socking. —usernamekiran (talk) 16:18, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Theflyingpadres on User:Theflyingpadres (17:01, 24 October 2024)
editHello. Is their a "quick-button" to hit and upload a photo to my user page please? Thank-you --Theflyingpadres (talk) 17:01, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Theflyingpadres: Hi. In case you own the photo/copyrights, then the photo goes to commons, not wikipedia. Wikipedia hosts only non-free/copyrighted photos under certain conditions. Otherwise, any kind of copyrighted photos are not allowed on wikipedia, nor on commons. I have posted a few links to your talkpage regarding image policies as well. —usernamekiran (talk) 17:23, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
Hello :> I wanted to know what should I name the page when making a userbox on Wikipedia, I'm familiar with making the Userboxs itself on the fandom shipping wiki and on there when creating a new page you put it as template:Userbox/*insert name* as the title name so that way it's not a main page. So I wanted to ask if that's the same here or something similar to that when creating the page for userboxes. --Una Sama (talk) 16:36, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Una Sama: the title of the userbox should convey the idea about the topic of the userbox. Regarding the exact location/address of the userbox, unlike fandom, English Wikipedia prefers the userboxes in user-space, it can be either in your userspace, or in "User:UBX/*insert name*". eg: User:Johnl1479/Userbox/*nix, User:Jor.langneh/Linux Mint these two are in creator's own userspace, - or User:UBX/OpenBSD, which is a shared userspace. —usernamekiran (talk) 17:56, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

Nonstop messages from KiranBOT
editHello @Usernamekiran: May I know why your bot KiranBOT has been messaging me this three times in a row, even after I denied it with the bots template? Thanks. — hhypeboyh 💬 • ✏️ 03:13, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- @HypeBoy: Hello. Thanks for bringing the issues to my notice. I was aware of that would happen because of the way you had denied the bot, and I was going to fix it soon. Regarding the repeated messages: the bot runs every night at 03:03, UTC. During every run, it was looking for
KiranBOTmsgID:1253441495
on your talkpage, as part of the original message. The msg ID is unique to each message. As you were removing the message along with msg ID, the bot was thinking the message was never delivered, hence it was re-adding that message. I have fixed both these issues now, and no-one should receive duplicated messages. —usernamekiran (talk) 17:32, 2 November 2024 (UTC)- @Usernamekiran: Thank you for fixing the issues. I didn't realize I denied your bot wrong. Should I change how I write my bot template? Best, — hhypeboyh 💬 • ✏️ 01:12, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- @HypeBoy: no. you denied it correctly, but my bot was looking for a few other templates, and not the one you had inserted. I have fixed the issue now - now it looks for all variants. In short, you do not have to make any changes, now all the variants of "nobots" have been covered. —usernamekiran (talk) 18:31, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

typo on Userpage from KiranBot
editHi, I just wanted to let you know that the link to disable Task 8 of KiranBot has a typo. Synonimany (talk) 14:02, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Synonimany: Hello. I checked it, and it is working fine for me. Maybe it was a one-time fluke? Would you kindly try it again? —usernamekiran (talk) 17:46, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, if it wasn't clear what i was referring to, i meant the text, which links to the disable page says diasbale and not disable. Synonimany (talk) 18:20, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- On Third Read, it really does mean the wrong thing, sorry Synonimany (talk) 18:34, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Synonimany: oh. I understood it now. I was thinking about the link leading to the page, or page title. I have fixed the typo now. Thank you very much for pointing it out —usernamekiran (talk) 19:28, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- No Problem. Happy to help Synonimany (talk) 19:29, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Updates for editors
- Stewards can now make global account blocks cause global autoblocks. This will assist stewards in preventing abuse from users who have been globally blocked. This includes preventing globally blocked temporary accounts from exiting their session or switching browsers to make subsequent edits for 24 hours. Previously, temporary accounts could exit their current session or switch browsers to continue editing. This is an anti-abuse tool improvement for the Temporary Accounts project. You can read more about the progress on key features for temporary accounts. [1]
- Wikis that have the CampaignEvents extension enabled can now use the Collaboration List feature. This list provides a new, easy way for contributors to learn about WikiProjects on their wikis. Thanks to the Campaign team for this work that is part of the 2024/25 annual plan. If you are interested in bringing the CampaignEvents extension to your wiki, you can follow these steps or you can reach out to User:Udehb-WMF for help.
- The text color for red links will be slightly changed later this week to improve their contrast in light mode. [2]
- View all 32 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, on multilingual wikis, users can now hide translations from the WhatLinksHere special page.
Updates for technical contributors
- XML data dumps have been temporarily paused whilst a bug is investigated. [3]
In depth
- Temporary Accounts have been deployed to six wikis; thanks to the Trust and Safety Product team for this work, you can read about the deployment plans. Beginning next week, Temporary Accounts will also be enabled on seven other projects. If you are active on these wikis and need help migrating your tools, please reach out to User:Udehb-WMF for assistance.
- The latest quarterly Language and Internationalization newsletter is available. It includes: New languages supported in translatewiki or in MediaWiki; New keyboard input methods for some languages; details about recent and upcoming meetings, and more.
Meetings and events
- MediaWiki Users and Developers Conference Fall 2024 is happening in Vienna, Austria and online from 4 to 6 November 2024. The conference will feature discussions around the usage of MediaWiki software by and within companies in different industries and will inspire and onboard new users.

Question from CalleyMcClure (11:57, 5 November 2024)
editHi there! There is a wikipedia page for my boss (Samir Brikho) that I just tried to edit 2 parts. 1 was his nationality (that worked) and 1 under personal life he asked me to change it as it says he is divorced but his current status is married and he has 3 children. How I do not want to cite a copy of his marriage certificate, is there anyway I can upload it to a moderator to check and allow it? Thank you for your time --CalleyMcClure (talk) 11:57, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Rhys.L.Williiams (18:53, 8 November 2024)
editBatsun removed some content I had included in an article ("Nonet for Strings"), for legitimate reasons I believe. Via the "Talk" section, he explained why. I just replied to him in "Talk," and asked a question. Could you review this briefly and provide me with your expert opinion? Grateful if you are able and willing to do this. --Rhys.L.Williiams (talk) 18:53, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
