Brianna Wiest (born October 11, 1992 in New York ) is an American author of writings on poetry, life guidance, and self help.

Life

[edit]

Wiest grew up in New York and studied at Elizabethtown College where she was editor-in-chief of the Etownian student newspaper.[1][2] In 2013, the author received a B.A in English from the College and later, in 2024, received an Honorary Doctorate in Literature.[1][2] While working as a journalist as a post-graduate, Brianna Wiest began publishing articles on various publications such as Forbes, Teen Vogue, Thought Catalog, and Huffington Post.[3][4][5][6] Over time, she began expanding and meditating on her own creative writing and reflective pieces.[7] Her later works address control, self-development, mental health, self sabotage, and structure in personal life.[8] Today, Wiest is a partner at Thought Catalog and lives in northern California.[5]

Bibliography

[edit]

In her first collection of published essays titled The Truth About Everything, published by Thought Catalog Books in 2014, Wiest weaves together the essence of becoming oneself through a series of personal stories.[9] In 2016, Thought Catalog Books published Wiest's first international bestseller, 101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think.[10][11] 101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think asks the reader the essential question, "Does the way I think hinder me from living life to its fullest potential?"[10] Wiest went on to publish more titles with Thought Catalog Books.[10] In 2020, Thought Catalog Books published The Mountain is You, which is about self-sabotage.[11][12] This title also became an international bestseller.[11] Additionally, published in 2023, The Pivot Year became an international bestseller and was featured on the Today Show.[13][14] Wiest has sold more than one million copies of her books worldwide, has appeared on global bestseller lists, and her books have been translated into 40+ languages.[1][15]

Writing Philosophy

[edit]

Wiest has interviewed with many prominent magazines and has detailed her writing style, beliefs, and writing philosophy.[18][19] She relies on writing as her "enlightenment," acknowledging that “Writing was my joy; it was my processing.”[18] Additionally, a consistent theme in Wiest's works is the focus on self-sabotage and self-mastery.[19] She explores this intersection, notably how people can work to transform subconscious self-sabotage tendencies into conscious change and growth.[19] Wiest's works all offer ideas, motivations, skills, and recommendations to better aid in a self-help journey and shift towards a more peaceful and joyful life.[19][20]
