Hero By Night, the comic book and webcomic series by D.J. Coffman is the winner of the 2006 Comic Book Challenge held by Platinum Studios and NBC at the San Diego Comicon. [1] "Hero By Night" is the story of David Day, a golden age super hero who vanished in 1956. 50 years later a young man, Jack King, discovers Day's hidden lair and all his gear and gadgets along with his power ring. Instead of instantly becoming a hero, Jack decides to put the items on eBay to try to make a fortune, but it draws the attention of the original hero's archenemies.

The "Hero By Night Journals" [2] follow the stories of the original Hero from the 40's and 50's up until he vanishes.

The comic book mini-series, published by Platinum Studios and Image Comics, features the story of Jack King in the modern day faced with this dilemma of becoming a hero, or running away with fortune. [3] The book has garnered many rave reviews ,[4] in the comic book press, from Wizard Magazine [5] , and has ranked on Wizard's "Summer Heat Index". [6] The series has also been well received by such online comic magazines such as Silver Bullet Comics [7],Newsarama.com [8] and AINT IT COOL NEWS [9]

It was announced by the creator in May of 2007 that Hero By Night would become an ongoing series later in Fall of 2007.
