Career

Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew is well-known as a property developer with more than 35 years of experience in the industry. He was among the first to venture in country living due to his love for nature. He is also the founder of The Mines Resort and Country Heights Holdings, which has interests in property development, health, hospitality and education.

In 1985, he started into property development.[1] One of his significant projects that enable him to earned industry recognition is by transforming an abandoned rubber estate into country home living residences with quality landscaped environment. [2]Against all odds, he successfully converted the world largest open cast mining land[3] into a breath-taking landmark named the Mines Resort City. It is the largest environmental project undertaken in Malaysia history.

Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew is an extraordinary entrepreneur who transformed waste land to iconic developments. From the logged-over jungles of north Borneo to the hinterland of Mauritius. From the backwaters of Johannesburg to the historical Royal Docks, London. The Exhibition Centre in London or ExCel, Britain’s largest standalone exhibition centre in the Docklands is a result of his vision and passion on property development and so is the Borneo Highlands Resort and Hornbill Golf & Jungle Club in Sarawak which has won the CNBC Award for Best Golf Development Malaysia in 2008[4].

Business Profile

Country Heights Holdings Berhad is an investment holding company listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad and was founded by Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew.[5] The Company, through its subsidiaries, operates in property development and construction, property investment and management, hotel, and golf resort. Country Heights also provides educational, computer, leisure, marketing, health screening, exhibition centre and event management services. A few projects that were built and made by Tan Sri Lee included the Mines Resort and Golf Club, Country Heights Damansara, Country Heights Kajang, Borneo Highlands, Palace of the Golden Horses, Excel Exhibition Centre, London and Pecanwood Golf and Country Club, South Africa.[6]

Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew also ventured into the commercial sector, in which he founded The Mines[7]. The Mines, previously known as Mines Shopping Fair, has transformed over the years into a contemporary neighbourhood shopping mall which is inclusive of food and services outlets.

Healthcare sector

Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew expanded his business to healthcare and wellness industry as well in the early 2000.His purpose was to establish a preventive health screening centre within a resort which resulted in Golden Horses Health Sanctuary (GHHS)[8] Healthcare as a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. This is Malaysia’s FIRST dedicated preventive health screening centre, and advocate the philosophy of “Prevention is better than cure”.

Digital Investment sector

After more than 30 years in the residential, commercial and recreational sectors, Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew decided to pursue his interest in cryptocurrencies. He founded Golden Horse Digital Investment Bank Ltd (“GHDIB”) in 2021. GHDIB is a licensed and regulated digital investment bank. It offers investment accounts alongside a range of lending products and a digital asset exchange.

Significant Events

Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew is the patron and founder of the World Chinese Economic Forum[9], which was later rebranded to World Chinese Economic Summit.[10] It was founded in 2009, by two leading Malaysian entrepreneurs, Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew and Tan Sri Michael Yeoh. With the rapid rise of technology and innovation, the summit has rebranded itself into the Global Chinese Economic & Technology Summit in 2021, and it was covering diverse topics such as the role of technology in business, education, healthcare and economic growth.

The Summit is an annual international Forum promoting business linkages, connectivity, shared prosperity and sustainability. Its purpose is to enhance connections between China and the world and among the global Chinese diasporas. It is a high-level forum that brings together Government, Business and Academic.

Charity Event

Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew has initiated the Bantu-bantu Malaysia, a non-profit social welfare initiative, during the movement control order (MCO) in Malaysia which started March 2020 due to Covid 19 pandemic. Bantu-bantu Malaysia has engaged in activities to bring in masks and personal protection equipment (PPEs) for preventive measures and food box hampers  and others essentials, targeting for the mid to low income.

During such a difficult time, Bantu-bantu Malaysia has brought in 6.5 million masks under the leadership of Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew, as he understood that prevention is the best way to slow down COVID-19. Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew has donated 640 surgical gowns, as well as 2 ventilators, 300 PPEs, 20,000 surgical masks, and 3000 N95 grade masks to medical staff and front-liners of private and government hospitals as well as NGOs in different states such as Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, and Kelantan.

More than 30,000 food baskets and other food necessities were distributed by Bantu-Bantu Malaysia.[11] As a food security measure, more than roti canai and cooked food were distributed to the JAWI Food Bank, the Social Welfare Department, Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan, Army Veterans, and other NGOs. Since the start of MCO, the Palace of the Golden Horses initiated a culinary programme for orphans, old folks, single mothers, foreign employees, and students within a 5-kilometer radius of their hotel.

Biodata

Apart from his career, Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew is also passionate about Golf. To him, GOLF represents “Gratefulness of Loving Family” and the “Grateful of Loving Friendship”[12]. One of his business premises, The Mines Resort & Golf Club, has held many famous events and golf tournament such as Wisma Putra-KKR Golf Game, World Cup of Golf  and others.

Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew likes to spend his free time for gardening. One of his favourites is the Bonsai plant. Tan Sri Lee has also organised a Bonsai Exhibition together with Malaysia Bonsai & Suiseki Society on January 2022.[13]

Additionally, Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew is also a horse lover as most of his business has mentioned or use horses to symbolize his love towards horses, including the world-renowned Palace of the Golden Horses.[14]

Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew is a renowned entrepreneur with a strong belief in Chinese Philosophy. He believes in the philosophy of Confucius as well as I-Ching and would put the philosophy into practice.
