Can someone explain the plot?

[edit]

I have just watched about the ten last minutes of the film. From what I saw, I must admit, it didn't make much sense to me.

Was Jack McCloud the ghost of a soldier who died in World War II? Then, what was his special connection to the family eleven years later (he didn't seem to be related to them), and why did he appear as a tramp with his dog?

Jack's last apparition may or may not have been just in the (now adult) I-narrator's imagination when the latter suddenly comes to recognize what Jack's last wish for him was, but all the other things have remained unclear to me.

At what point exactly became the I-narrator aware that Jack was a long dead veteran, and how did he find his grave?

This film is very touching, but still somehow confusing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.141.250.203 (talk) 14:30, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
