Context

In February 1402, Sigismund of Luxembourg took the opportunity to take power in Bohemia to increase his power, the league of lords had Wenceslas IV kidnapped and on March 6, 1402, Sigismund took him imprisoned to Vienna under Albert IV of Austria.

The kingdom go into a dark civil war where lords, cities and families must take a stand on the situation. The city of Kutna Hora (Kuttenberg in German) remains faithful to its king Wenceslas IV.

In October 1402, after the fall of the city of Kolin, Sigismund organized a war meeting to gather Hungarian, Cuman and Royalist armed forces to attack Kutna Hora.

The commander and royal hetman of Sigismund Markvart of Úlice was military governor of Prague and led his army to the west to attack the domain of Suchdol.

Under the authority of Lord Peter of Pisek (in Czech Petr z Pisku), he was a supporter and loyalist of Wenceslas IV and refused to submit to the power of Sigismund. Markvart decides to punish him for betrayal of the Bohemian crown.

The royal army of Prague attacks the village of Vysoká and the soldiers of Lord Peter of Písek must retreat towards Fort Suchdol.

Peter of Písek does not give up and resists. The fort is well fortified and defended to hold, and Markvart's royal army struggles to attack it.

Markvart of Ulice is forced to launch a siege by setting up military encampments and requesting more reinforcements, in addition to building a trebuchet.
