James Canty is a musician from Washington, D.C. currently known for playing in the band Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. He is also known for the many punk rock bands he played with since he was a teenager. Nation of Ulysses (drums), Cupid Car Club (drums), The Make Up (guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), All Scars (various instruments), and French Toast (various instruments, vocals) were all bands he was involved with over the years. Most of these bands were part of the Dischord Records rouster, but other labels such as K Records, Lookout, Kill Rock Stars, and Drag City have all put out records by his various bands. Born in D.C. in 1971, Canty was influenced by his older brother, Brendan Canty (Fugazi), and his love of music. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
