SportsRadioDetroit.com is a Detroit-based internet sports broadcasting and blogging network covering the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings. SportsRadioDetroit.com, branded SRD, is the flagship hockey podcast for the long running Detroit Red Wings fan website, LetsGoWIngs.com[1]

History

Early History, LetsGoWingsMedia.com

SportsRadioDetroit originally began as an experimental podcast series (entitled, The Red Line)[2] for the Detroit Red Wings fan site, LetsGoWings.com in 2011 due it its increasing popularity. The Show debuted on the sister website, LetsGoWingsMedia.com on October 31, 2011 with hosts Mike Morland (WUMD, WHFR, WCBN, 97.1 The Ticket) and Tony Maize (WUMD, WCBN, 1270 AM Detroit).[3][4] Roger Castillo (Producer at 1270 AM in Detroit) joined the podcast series during episode 3.[5]

LetsGoWingsRadio.com

After a successful first season, the podcast shifted to a permanent home at the domain, LetsGoWingsRadio.com in September 2012.[6]

SportsRadioDetroit.com

Due to the podcast's popularity and audience appreciation of Red Wings coverage during the NHL Lockout of 2012, show creator Mike Morland decided to expand the podcast series to cover all four major Detroit sports team (Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings). The expanded podcasting network was designed to capitalize on the Detroit market's limited AM/FM sports talk options and lack of variety in show topics. With the concept of an AM/FM sports talk alternative and allowing minor radio personalities to play a more major role in Detroit sorts talk radio, SportsRadioDetroit.com was born.

During that time, an independent website was create to host the online radio sports network; ending the operation of LetsGoWingsRadio.com and making the new Podcast "Red Wings SRD" the official podcast of LetsGoWings.com[7] Along with Mike Morland, Roger Castillo and Tony Maize from LetsGoWingsRadio joined SportsRadioDetroit. Additionally, local media personalities Ben Szilagy and Chris Zadorozny joined the staff of Sports Radio Detroit. Former WUMD radio host Kevin Liddy joined the staff in December 2012.[8]
