The birth and growth of the Pinball Expo

Founded in 1985, the Pinball Expo is considered history's longest-running event that focuses on pinball and its associated industry, sport and collector's hobby. Conceived in 1984 by Rob Berk, of Warren, OH and assisted by Mike Pacak, of Columbus, OH, and Bill Kurtz, the trio held their first event over the weekend of November 22-24, 1985 at the Holiday Inn O'Hare/Kennedy in Rosemont, IL. The event attracted 385 attendees and 23 vendors. On October 26, 1991, the Pinball Expo launched the Pinball Expo Hall of Fame and inducted its first class of pinball luminaries: David Gottlieb Ray Moloney, Sam Stern, and Harry E. Williams.
