The 1940 NCAA gymnastics championships were contested at the third annual NCAA-sanctioned gymnastics meet to determine the team and individual national champions of men's collegiate gymnastics among its member programs in the United States.[1]

For the third year, the championships were hosted by the University of Chicago at the Henry Crown Field House in Chicago, Illinois.

Defending champions Illinois finished on top of the team standings, the Fighting Illini's second title.

The individual all-around championship was shared by two gymnasts from Illinois: Joe Giallombardo and Paul Fina.
