Yeh Shuhua (Chinese: 葉舒華, Template:Lang-ko; born January 6, 2000), known mononymously as Shuhua (Template:Lang-ko), is a Taiwanese singer and a member of the South Korean girl group (G)I-dle.

Early life

Yeh Shuhua was born on January 6, 2000, in Taoyuan, Taiwan. She attended Hwa Kang Arts School in Taipei, majoring in theater, prior to pursuing her artistic career in South Korea.

Career

Pre-debut

In April 2016, Yeh attended Cube Star World Audition help in Taipei [3] and successfully passed the audition after performeing free-style dancing and singing.[4] As she was still a first-year in Hwa Kang Arts School, she took a leave of absence to become a trainee in South Korea.[5]。

In June 2017, she participated in a promotional video for Rising Star Cosmetics along with Yuqi and Minnie.[6] In September of the same year, she starred in music video of "Pet" by South Korean band 10cm alongside labelmate Yoo Seon-ho.[7]

2018–2022: (G)I-dle & solo activities

On April 10, 2018, Yeh was revealed to be an upcoming member of Cube Entertainment's new girl group, (G)I-dle.[8] As a marketing event, the group performed at a busking event at Hongdae on April 15, 2018. Yeh debuted with her group (G)I-DLE on May 2, 2018, as the visual, vocalist, and magnae with their lead single "Latata" of their debut album, I Am.[9]

In February 2019, Yeh competed in rhythmic gymnastics at the 2019 Idol Star Athletics Championships (ISAC) and placed 3rd.[10] In August 2020, Yeh participated in the 2020 Idol Star Dog Agility Championships with her dog, Haku, and came 2nd.[11] On April 12, 2021, it was announced that Yeh and her groupmate Yuqi has signed with T. Entertainment (一起娱乐) for their Chinese activities.[12][13] On June 5 and 12, 2021, Yeh appeared as a guest on the Taiwanese variety television show "Mr. Player" produced by Sanlih Entertainment Television where she participated in a series of games and taught the show's cast the choreography to (G)I-DLE's "Lion".[14][15] On September 26, 2021, she was featured on the cooking show "EBS Best Secret Recipe" produced by EBS presenting easy but tasty recipes that people can try at home.[16]

Personal life

Yeh has aspired to become an actor ever since watching actors on television when she was young, and has always told her family that "one day, for sure, I will be on TV!".[17] After getting to know K-Pop through her friends, Yeh's dream shifted from being an actor to being a singer. While in junior high school, she happened upon a performance video of Hyuna and became a fan, which solidified her resolve to become a singer. To follow that dream, Yeh entered Hwa Kang Arts School in Taipei, a well-known Arts high school in Taiwan known for producing celebrities. Since most of the singers and actors she liked had studied theater in school, Yeh decided to follow the same path and concentrated in theater. When Cube Entertainment held a global audition in Taipei in April, 2016, Yeh did not originally plan to attend, but ended up following her friends along. After performing free-style dancing and sing, she passed the audition and was invited to join the agency in South Korea. Yeh came to South Korea in the winter of 2016.

In addition to Korean and her native Taiwanese Mandarin, Yeh is proficient in Taiwanese Hokkien.
