Iker Unzueta Ramos (born January 9, 2005), better known as Iker Unzu, is a Spanish internet personality, specifically on YouTube[1] and TikTok.[2][3]

In 2020, he created his account on the well-known social network TikTok and was recognized as "A 'successful tiktoker' " by 'Heraldo de Aragon'.[2] In 2020 he created his own weekly podcast, which quickly gained popularity on audio platforms such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify. At the age of 15, he surpassed 3 million followers on the social network TikTok, becoming one of the first creators in Spain to achieve that number at such a young age, having now more than 13 million on the platform.

Early life and education

Iker Unzu was born in Zaragoza, Spain; when he was 6 years old, he moved to Brazil and 4 years later to Mexico, where he lived for another 4 years. In 2018 he moved back to his city of birth. Unzu, is currently studying in Zaragoza. Iker's father's name is Asier and his mother's name is Marta. His mother tongue is Spanish and he speaks fluently English, German and Portuguese. Unzu started posting videos on Musical.ly, now know as TikTok, in 2016 and has been posting on various platforms since then.[7] He is currently living in Los Angeles, California.

Career

Unzu posted his first video on TikTok on January 1, 2020, a sketch titled 'New Year's Countdown'.[8] Then he started uploading content to the platform on a daily basis, including vlogs about his day-to-day life. He created his YouTube account in 2015, but didn't start posting videos until 2020. Unzu uses Instagram primarily to post comedy videos.[9] He has collaborated with companies such as Huesitos and Cacaolat, which are really popular in Spain, creating videos on his platforms. He has said that he used TikTok as a way to show his creativity through comedy videos and daily vlogs.[10]

Unzu has more than 13 million followers on TikTok, 10,200,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel and more than 2,700,000 followers on Instagram which has made him well known in Spanish-speaking countries, specifically in Spain, Mexico and Argentina. He is currently the 18th most followed creator on TikTok in Spain.[11]

On October 22, 2022, Iker was invited as a special guest to a charity fashion show in Zaragoza, which was held at the Aura events room, where he spoke about his career in social media and his trajectory as an influencer.[12][13][14]

Unzu is currently working with the representation agency YouPlanet, which also works with other well-known creators in Spain, such as Auronplay and Wismichu.[15][16] On December 29 he did a collaboration with Universal to promote the movie M3GAN before its release.[17]. He has continued working with production companies such as Blumhouse to promote the movie Five Nights at Freddy's and Warner to promote the prequel movie Dune from the franchise Dune.[18][19]

Unzu was the first internet celebrity to create an Instagram-exclusive series called "Close Friends Forever" in collaboration with Meta, which released the first episode on April 15th, 2024.[20][21] In the series, Unzu portrays both the protagonist and a behind-the-scenes creator, reflecting his dual expertise in content production and audience engagement.[22] The series narrative is centered on friendship, utilizing Instagram's interactive features such as close friends lists, video calls, and direct messaging.[23] This approach helps to foster a sense of community and participation among viewers, further amplifying Unzu's impact on modern storytelling through social media.[24] The series has garnered significant attention, attracting millions of viewers.[25][26][27]

Iker Unzu's book, titled "Escapando de la mansión embrujada", is scheduled for release on May 22, 2024. This interactive mystery novel invites readers to join Unzu as he navigates the challenges of being accepted into a university in Los Angeles. The situation quickly turns surreal as his entire family finds themselves locked in a haunted mansion. The plot weaves together elements of adventure, humor, and suspense as Iker and his family must solve puzzles and follow hidden clues to escape their eerie confines. With characters such as a restless grandmother, bickering siblings, and a cleanliness-obsessed mother, Unzu creates a dynamic storyline emphasizing teamwork and sharp observation.[28]

TikTok

Unzu started posting 6 videos a day during the summer of 2020. In July he posted the video When your mother says it's all your fault. It was her first video to go viral and his account quickly began gaining followers, climbing almost 400,000 per month and reaching 1 million on August 1, 2020. Unzu´s videos on the platform focus mainly on relatable situations teenagers go trough, comedy story-times and skits about made-up characters, whom he represents wearing wigs.[7]

Unzu continued to post content about everyday situations in 2020 and began creating content about teenage situations with their parents. He reached 3 million followers in December, 4 million in January, 5 million in March, and now has more than 13 million on the platform.

YouTube

Unzu posted her first YouTube video called The Whispering Challenge with My Sister on October 28, 2018. He started vlogging in 2020 and reached 100,000 subscribers that same year. Due to his popularity on TikTok, his videos on YouTube became popular, reaching up to 40 million views.[7] Unzu currently has 10,200,000 subscribers on the platform and 4.1 billion views, which makes him the 35th most subscribed to channel in Spain.[6][29]

Unzu created his second channel on December 25, 2021, reaching 100,000 subscribers that same month and receiving the Silver Play Button from YouTube. Iker Unzu Shorts[30] currently has more than 800,000 subscribers.

Podcast

In 2020, Unzu released the first episode of his podcast, Iker Unzu[31] (previously called Pasando el rato con Iker Unzu), a weekly series in which he tries to have an ongoing conversation on any particular topic, the show is produced by Anchor. It covers a wide range of topics such as relationships, mental health, funny anecdotes, and instincts. It is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and many other podcast platforms.
