Jorge Antonio Salhe Readi (born 1 July 1975, in Santiago, Chile) is a Chilean-Palestinian shooter and engineer. At the 2024 Summer Olympics, he is representing Palestine in the men's skeet event.

Biography

Salhe is the son of Palestinian immigrants who settled in Santiago, Chile, in search of better opportunities, like many other Palestinians in the diaspora. His mother was born in Bethlehem, arriving in Chile when she was four years old. The Salhe family kept Palestinian traditions and culture alive, and Jorge grew up in a household where the roots and history of Palestine were deeply valued.

He studied engineering at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. From a young age, he showed interest in shooting sports. He began practicing skeet at local clubs in Santiago and quickly excelled in national competitions. His skill and dedication led him to participate in international events, representing both Chile and Palestine on various occasions.

Olympic participation

Salhe was invited by the International Shooting Sport Federation to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics representing Palestine. This invitation was one of the universality places allocated to athletes from underrepresented countries to participate, promoting diversity in the Olympic Games.[1]

He is one of the eight sportspeople representing Palestine in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. He will participate in the men's skeet event, being the first Palestinian to compete in shooting events at the Olympics.
