Joan Palmiter Bajorek is an American entrepreneur, linguist, and influencer. In August 2018, She founded Women in Voice, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization for women in voice technology, specializing in speech technology, artificial intelligence, linguistics technology, multimodal, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR).[1][2] She is the CEO of Clarity AI (an AI and software company)[3], a 2019 Top 11 Influencer in Voice by Voicebot.ai[4], and a 2020 Alexa Champion.[5] She hosts the Your AI Roadmap podcast, featuring AI experts who work at Adobe, Google, Intuit, Microsoft, and more.[6]

Early life and education

Bajorek grew up in Portland, Oregon, and graduated with a BFA in Photomedia and a BA in French from the University of Washington in 2013[7], an MA in Linguistics from the University of California, Davis in 2016[8], and a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Speech-Language Technology[9] and currently lives in Seattle, WA.[10]

In 2019, she completed her Ph.D. Her dissertation title is entitled “Speaking of Language Technology".[11]

Career

She was previously the VP of Data & Analytics of OneReach.ai[12], Head of Conversational Research and Strategy at VERSA Agency[13], Principal Investigator at the University of Arizona[14], Senior Conversational Designer at Nuance[15], and an Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) at WeWork Labs.[16] As a public speaker, she has spoken at 2019 VOICE Summit[17], CES 2020[18][19][20], 2020 L3-AI[21] by Rasa[22], Humans of AI[23], ConveyUX[24], 2021 MWC Telekom[25], and 2023 VentureBeat.[26] Joan is also an advisor to CleanAI[27] and investor to startups and enterprises.[28][29]

Her work is featured in publications including Harvard Business Review[30], Adobe XD[31], Cambridge University Press[32], UXmatters[33], and FLTMAG.[34] She has raised over $500k with 20+ chapters for Women in Voice.[35] Google Assistant was the first corporate sponsor for the non-profit organization.[36]
