Draft inspection

Is there anything wrong with this draft about the Minecraft film? 69.165.146.227 (talk) 18:29, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Filming

I am not sure if there are any reliable sources that say when filming for the project would begin. Can someone find more reliable sources for this article? 2607:FEA8:761B:C900:80C9:C7F:2C6D:481D (talk) 16:03, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Filming already began according to the director (https://www.sltrib.com/artsliving/2024/01/14/utah-filmmakers-talk-about-their/). We should move the page to the mainspace. KingArti (talk) 15:31, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Premise

According to a few sources I found ([1] [2]), the premise described in the article may be out of date. Looking on Google for anything else seems to generally show that the most recently known version of the plot comes from a minecraft blog post from 2019 which has since been deleted, and turnover behind the scenes has likely made this no longer accurate (at least according to the direct). Would it be worth removing the premise section until the plot is officially announced or confirmed to be as-is? Or would it be better to mention that it's still subject to change? Thanks. Deauthorized. (talk) 00:44, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Deauthorized The information from the Minecraft blog is very likely obsolete, the script has been rewritten many times since then. the premise section should be removed until a plot/premise is confirmed ExtragalacticXG (talk) 14:41, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deauthorized doing a little more research, I found that the 2019 plot premise of "A teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers must save the Overworld after the Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction" was based on Peter Sollett's version of the film. However, he left the project, Jared Hess replaced him to direct, and the script was rewritten. So therefore, this premise is extremely unlikely to be accurate. I will remove it promptly ExtragalacticXG (talk) 14:48, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 14 March 2024

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Not moved. Consensus that a combination of SMALLDETAILS and the 2012 documentary being rather obscure means additional disambiguation is not needed. (non-admin closure) SnowFire (talk) 03:57, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Minecraft (film)Minecraft (2025 film) – Dab from Minecraft: The Story of Mojang * Pppery * it has begun... 23:47, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose: per WP:SMALLDETAILS as an unnecessary disambiguation given that documentary film already has a full subtitle and most readers looking for a Minecraft film would be looking for this feature film, not a documentary film. Making Minecraft (film) redirect to the documentary or transforming it into a DAB are not viable options, either, and the hatnotes used at both articles currently suffice the navigation for anyone who may be looking for one or the other. As no further explanation was provided for the RM, I see no reason to justify moving this article. Trailblazer101 (talk) 23:53, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • (edit conflict) Oppose The documentary is titled Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, not Minecraft. It is being naturally disambiguated by its subtitle; if it did not have a subtitle, it would have been parenthetically disambiguated as Minecraft (documentary). InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:54, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Not for the reasons others are stating, but the Minecraft movie is highly likely to be the obvious primary topic upon its release over the obscure documentary. It would be somewhat pointless to move it now, only to move it back later. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 16:51, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We don't do sub-primary topics for films. I at least will continue to think this move will be warranted forever regardless of how popular this movie becomes. * Pppery * it has begun... 17:18, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I see. In that case I change it to support because there is a clear name conflict here. The documentary has been referred to as "Minecraft" even on its creators' website. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 21:05, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have basically the same response as what Trail wrote below. The documentary is titled Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, making it a partial title match (see WP:TITLEPTM), whereas Minecraft is the only film titled Minecraft. Since the documentary is already happily disambiguated with its subtitle, the film is the only article that needs a parenthetical disambiguator. If Minecraft: The Story of Mojang were moved to Minecraft (2012 film), that would be a different story, but like I said, Minecraft (documentary) would be a better option in that case. (film) is also generally understood to mean "feature film" and not documentaries or short films, so I don't think anyone would be looking for the documentary when searching Minecraft (film). InfiniteNexus (talk) 22:45, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak support the 2025 one has 59,174 views compared with only 1,192[[3]] for the 2012 one but the 2025 one is very recent. Also note in terms of SMALLDETAILS the absence of the subtitle likely doesn't distinguish as sub titles are often omitted. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:17, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are no other films only titled "Minecraft". This is the only one. A subtitle is enough of a WP:NATURAL disambiguation for the documentary and thus mitigates the need for any further disambiguation here. As the nom has noted, WP:PRIMARYFILM is a great example of how different these two titles are to the point where further disambiguation here is unnecessary as the titles are not as closely similar. This is not a similar case of there being three "Titanic" films, Titanic (1943 film), Titanic (1953 film), and Titanic (1997 film), as these two Minecraft films do not share the same title. Trailblazer101 (talk) 20:50, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As mentioned subtitles are often omitted, that is to say the 2012 one would probably be commonly called just "Minecraft" even if only sometimes. File:Minecraftthestoryofmojangposter.jpg has "Minecraft" in large text, "2PP" in smaller text and "The Story of Mojang" in smaller text. Per WP:ATDAB the fact that another may be naturally disambiguated or even have the longer name as the most common name doesn't mean the one without the subtitle can be at the partly disambiguated title. Crouch, Swale (talk) 22:45, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Which part of ATDAB exactly are you invoking? Also, how the poster styles the title is irrelevant; on book covers, the author's name is often printed comically larger than the title of the book. InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:02, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"use only as much additional detail as necessary". How the poster styles the title is relevant as disambiguation is usually supposed to be unambiguous rather than only in some contexts. The reality is its quite likely many people would know of the 2012 one as "Minecraft" due to the poster. Wikipedia has a subtitle Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopaedia but that wouldn't mean that if there was another website called "Wikipedia" that did not have a subtitle that Wikipedia (website) would be acceptable for the other just because we have a sub title. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:10, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: There aren't any other films with the title Minecraft. Unless you count the documentary film titled, Minecraft: The Story of Mojang which I don't think Minecraft (film) should redirect to the documentary. Ddg1208gaming (talk) 02:03, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it should either. I think it should redirect to Minecraft (disambiguation). And of course if you exclude all known exceptions then there aren't any others. * Pppery * it has begun... 02:33, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with this opposition. By the (2025 film) logic, the Super Mario Bros. 1993 movie article should be called "Super Mario Bros. (1993 film)", which it shouldn't because, say it with me, there's only one movie with that name. SuperWikiBrother (talk) 19:39, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is another example of where WP:SMALLDETAILS comes into play. That 1993 article's title and the alt title for it, Super Mario Bros.: The Movie have enough differences that distinguish it from the 2023 film The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The same applies here with the 2025 Minecraft film and the 20212 documentary. Most readers looking a Minecraft film are guaranteed to be looking for the upcoming 2025 one, not some over a decade old documentary. Trailblazer101 (talk) 20:55, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add Criticism section

HAt 09:40, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why would we need one? Everything related to the film's criticism is written just fine in the Marketing section. SleepDeprivedGinger (talk) 11:35, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
my bad HAt 11:46, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We will add it once the film releases. I do not think that the universally panned teaser trailer merits this yet. Edelgardvonhresvelg (talk) 23:31, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notes on why the trailer is disliked

(I will firstly state, someone please fix my mistakes here. Especially finding a better title. However i will try to keep this short so my only other preface is, this is likely very biased, in spite of my attempts to not be.)

There are two main reason 'i' can see as to why the teaser trailer is being so extremely disliked.

1. The world does not look like minecraft. The world 'generation' is strange, doing things that Minecraft wouldn't normally, it generally looks like someone built it. Which wouldn't be so distracting, if the block sizes were consistent. Even if they are actually consistent as 3D models, from the view we get, blocks seem to be... distorted. They don't necessarily need to adhere to "1 block = 1 meter cubed"; but they DO need to be self consistent.

Every block should take up the same space as every other block. There are some blocks that seem to be exceptions, like slabs, stairs, and iron bars or glass panes. However they all still are 1 block. (It would be okay to use said exceptions in weird ways, like having multiple pots ontop of another block, but scale must be the same.)

2. Mobs and characters are odd... I am unable to fully state why unfortunately. Mostly because they are rather case specific. The first that comes to mind for me is actually the Ghasts, which look like rocks instead of marshmallows. These are much more personal problems and so i will ignore most of them (Except for the fact i'm pretty sure that sheep is poking fun at its own existence...)

However, that's just about the mobs. The humans... 'Players' i suppose, all look very wrong, and will always look wrong here. Granted, it makes sense as they need to be 'different' from the world, but the world is not different enough from the players to make enough of a contrast to seem like they actually are two different things. It's like the world they were sent to was changed to look more like them, and because of that they seem like they are suppose to look like they should belong there, but they just don't, ending somewhere in an uncanny valley instead of the extreme hills.
