Since its inception, PB Djarum has firmly encouraged its athletes to have vision to achieve in both tournaments court and education. Time management is an important matter, yet not easy, since most of them are students—in elementary, junior high, or senior high school. In order to maintain and balance the two important facets, PB Djarum cooperates with Department of Education and Culture. The outcome sets out the best performance of its athletes in badminton and education, as well.
The Department supports PB Djarum’s athletes by presenting school time dispensation, starting to study at different time from regular students. They are also given permission to leave classes for joining the tournaments. At present, some schools that sustain PB Djarum’s athletes’ academy are SD Baronang II, SMP Taman Dewata, and SMA Kramat.
Training Profile
“Athletes must work hard. Without effort, no triumph will come easily” – Budi Hartono, the CEO of PT Djarum.
It is true, especially for PB Djarum’s athletes. In PB Djarum, every athlete candidate has to pass the selection phase—including considerations like age, height, aptitude, intellectual capacity, psychological stability, basic skills, and family supports—before allowed joining the training program. When passed, the candidates can join PB Djarum training activities.
Afterward, there will be a continuous selection in athlete’s match ability. It has to be increased; otherwise, he/she will be regrettably sent back home, as a part of promotion-degradation training system applied by PB Djarum. The clauses are written to acknowledge athlete’s parents from the beginning.
The system is being implemented to increase the competitive atmosphere between athletes. Besides, in his/her failure, he/she is given chances for self-improvement or to develop another career.
