Eric "Rick" Forrester, Jr. is a fictional character in the CBS soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. The first actor to play Rick on a contract basis was Jacob Young, who joined the show in 1997 and was replaced by Justin Torkildsen in 1999. Torkildsen departed the show in late 2004, and made frequent guest appearances from then until 2006. Kyle Lowder assumed the role on January 25, 2007.
Character's background
Brooke's Oldest Child
Rick is the eldest child of Brooke Logan (played by Katherine Kelly Lang) and Eric Forrester (John McCook), and the older brother of Bridget (Ashley Jones). He also has six half-siblings; Thorne (Winsor Harmon), Kristen (Tracy Melchior), Felicia (Lesli Kay), Hope (Amanda and Rachel Pace),R.J. (Ridge Perkett) and Jack Marone.
Rick and Amber
In 1998, gold-digging Amber Moore (Adrienne Frantz) set her sights on teen aged Rick as a meal ticket into the high life after Brooke hired her as a live-in babysitter for Bridget (then played by Agnes Bruckner). Tragedy struck one night as Amber convinced Rick to challenge C. J. Garrison (Mick Cain) in a drag race. Losing control of the car, Rick was rushed to hospital in critical condition. There were no compatible kidney donors among Rick's family so out of guilt, Amber insisted they use hers. Rick and Amber began dating and slept together at Big Bear, resulting in Amber becoming pregnant. After C.J. revealed to Rick that Amber was going to have an abortion, the two rushed to stop her. Later, Rick proposed to Amber in order to give his child his name. Kimberly Fairchild (Ashley Lyn Cafagna) then moved into the neighborhood with her father and instantly connected with Rick. Despite unresolved feelings, Rick married Amber and he and Kimberly parted ways. In 1999, a furious Rick threw Amber out after Brooke revealed that Amber had been sexually intimate with Raymond (first played by Usher, then Karim Prince). Amber had passed out drunk and had no memory of the night with Raymond. Eventually, for the sake of his son and wedding vows Rick gave Amber another chance.
In 2000, Amber's lies were exposed. Becky (Marissa Tait) discovered that Amber used Becky's baby to pass off as Rick's son. Devastated to learn that his real baby had died, Rick reunited with Kimberly. Their happiness was fleeting, and when Becky died, Rick renewed his interest in Amber and Little Eric. C.J. and Rick come head to head as they compete for Amber and baby Eric. As C.J. and Amber prepared for their wedding, Rick tracked down little Eric's biological father, Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) in an attempt to gain custody. Rick brought Deacon back to LA and the two of them stopped C.J. and Amber's nuptials from taking place. In 2001, Rick spent his year at college while fighting to regain Amber and Little Eric. He realized bringing Deacon into their lives was a big mistake when Deacon tried to undermine his relationship with Amber and married his sister, Bridget (then played by Jennifer Finnigan), as a ploy to get at the family. However, the year ended with a glimmer of hope, with Amber announcing she was pregnant.
In 2002, Rick began taking an interest in his family's business, Forrester Creations, when his mother took a leave of absence and Ridge (Ronn Moss) took over. Rick became furious when Ridge dropped Brooke's Bedroom Line from Forrester's collection and began going to board meeting to stop Ridge from destroying all of his mother's work. Ridge tried to make a fool out of him, but Rick turned to Ridge's father Massimo Marone (Joseph Mascolo) who tutored Rick in business. With the help of his brother-in-law Deacon, Rick stopped Ridge from taking over Forrester Creations. His mother rewarded him by making him Vice President of the company. Just when Rick's future was starting to look bright, Amber lost their child and discovered she might never be able to have more. While grieving the loss of her second child, Amber got hooked on pain killers and was forced to go to rehab. Rick was very supportive of his wife in her time of need. After returning from rehab, Amber was drugged by Lance (who was being paid by psychotic Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown). Thinking she had relapsed and slept the night with Lance, she confessed to Rick, proceeded to turned his back on his wife.
Rick soon found solace with his new nanny for Little Eric, Erica Lovejoy (Courtnee Draper), who unbeknownst to him, was Sheila's daughter. The two became very close and Erica even moved in after she was injured in a fight with Amber. Sheila then convinced Erica to try to seduce Rick and get pregnant with his child, so he could be in Rick's life forever. Rick refused to sleep with Erica. Rick then found out from Ridge who Erica really was, and what her plan had been. Rick kicked Erica out of his life and reconciled with Amber. Rick and Amber again separated in late 2003 after losing custody of Little Eric to Deacon, who had recently married Macy Alexander (Bobbie Eakes). Because Rick and Amber had never legally adopted Little Eric, they had no legal right to keep him.
Rick's Return to L.A.
In 2004, Rick left LA after a failed relationship with Caitlin Ramirez (Kayla Ewell). He resided in Milan and later Paris, where he attempted to run Forrester International, and frequently returned to L.A. for family events, such as weddings and Forrester board meetings.
Rick and Phoebe
Rick returned to LA in late January 2007, after Nick Marone (Jack Wagner) blackmailed Eric into selling him Forrester Creations. He has become antagonistic toward Stephanie (Susan Flannery) and Ridge (Ronn Moss) blaming them for the loss of the company. Rick also constantly insults Ridge by telling the truth about Ridge being a Marone and claims Ridge has an "oversized ego". The Forresters are also unhappy with Rick's growing closeness to Ridge's teenage daughter Phoebe (MacKenzie Mauzy). Although it has been explained that they are not technically related (as Phoebe's father Ridge is actually the son of Massimo Marone, not Eric Forrester), the storyline has sparked a viewer backlash.
Rick has also been torn by a renewed acquaintance with Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), with whom he had an affair with in Paris. During a brief break-up with Phoebe, Rick turned to Ashley two days later and they ended up sleeping together in a hotel in Mexico. After hiding his fling with Ashley from Phoebe,Ridge,and the rest of the Forresters Rick confessed to Phoebe who broke up with Rick. Rick continued to profess his love for Phoebe and is trying to win her back, while Ashley has started dating Ridge.
Rick's Attempt To Compete with Ridge
Rick has expressed his disapproval of Ashley's relationship with Ridge and the strong possibility of Brooke and Ridge reconciling; despite the fact that Ridge protected Rick as a child by confessing to shooting Grant Chambers, Ridge is the father of his half-brother, R.J. Forrester and is the adopted father of his half-sister, Hope Logan.
Towards the end of Nicks marriage to Taylor Hayes, Rick became Taylors support, and just hours after a defeated Taylor walked out on Nick (finally she understood that Nick was in love with Brooke, not her,Rick went to see her and surprised her by kissing her. The relationship between Rick and Taylor has been hot and cold, with Taylor pushing Rick away one minute and then passionately kissing him the next.
On March 19, 2008, Rick told Taylor that he loved her in front of his mother, Brooke. Brooke slapped her since Taylor has insinuated that she's going after Rick because of her hatred for Brooke. After Brooke declared that she was going to take Jack from Taylor, Rick defied his mother and sided with Taylor, and presented papers to fight Brooke for custody.
On May 28, 2008, Taylor Hamilton accepted Rick's proposal.
Taylor and Rick were supposed to get married in October but Taylor left him for Ridge confirming his mother's suspicions that Taylor was only dating him to get back at Brooke Logan (her nemesis). On October 9, 2008, Rick confirmed to his mother, Brooke, that he will be marrying Taylor. He realized his mother was putting up one roadblock after another in front of him, trying to get Rick to question his relationship with Taylor.
Taylor comes in and hears Brooke and Ridge arguing over baby Jack and Nick. And she decides that she's concerned now since she never saw her "giving Jack to Brooke to raise" would cause a major problem in their relationship. She later on speaks to Ridge and begs him not to marry Brooke, while a foolish Rick waits for Taylor to come to their wedding planner appointment. She never shows, but Stephanie Forrester (Ridge's mom) shows up and tells him to give up marrying Taylor because Ridge and Taylor belong together. As Taylor is vehemently begging Ridge not to marry Brooke, she comes in and tells Taylor, "To stay the hell away from my family."
Rick loses Taylor/goes after Ridge
After Taylor realized she was still in love with Ridge she called off her wedding with Rick, who was outraged and blamed Ridge. In a blind rage Rick called Ridge telling him to meet him at the Skylounge at Forrester Creations. All of the anger and bitterness that built up over the years caused an argument between Rick and Ridge which ended up with Rick fighting Ridge, who tried repeatedly to calm Rick down and defuse the situation. Rick hit Ridge with a solid punch then threw him off Forrester Creations' ledge & Ridge screamed in horror when Rick fell off the balcony & 911 is called & he goes to hospital in Los Angeles. Taylor holds off from seeing Ridge just yet.
Ridge rushed Rick to the hospital where he was treated and after the doctor did a nerve test the doctor, Bridget, Brooke, Ridge, then Rick realized that Rick is paralyzed. During the week of 11/3/08, the truth came out for viewers about Rick's so-called paralysis. Rick also convinced his father that Ridge wants Eric Forrester dead.
Eric playing into Rick's plot of revenge against Ridge named Rick president of Forrester Creations. Brooke caught Rick standing up alone overjoyed about being named president but he covered saying it was over him walking agin. Eric and Ridge entered the room and Eric was overjoyed at Rick's recovery. Ridge saw through Rick's scheme and confronted him about his plan of revenge. He also wanted much-needed money to pay the bills for living & working in Los Angeles.
Rick has asked Stephanie for her help to keep the "supercouple" away from each other since Taylor wants to be with Ridge which is what Stephanie wants and Ridge will be away from Brooke, which is what Rick wants. After Stephanie discovered that Rick was faking his paralysis she called him out on it and threatened to expose him until he dangled the thought of being rid of Brooke forever from her life. And boasted on how he could make it happen since he didn't want Ridge to be anywhere near his mother.
Rick had Marcus replace everything that with "Ridge Forrester" with "Rick Forrester". He told Steffy that she is more like her father than her mother then changed tactics to try and win her over in an attempt to seduce her to infuriate Ridge so Brooke will leave him. Rick made his move by ordering a romantic dinner for two and convinced a suspicious Steffy to eat with him. Rick kissed Steffy who was aroused & they had sex, before being caught.
Phoebe's Death
With Brooke and Ridge's upcoming wedding Phoebe returned from touring and promoting Forrester Creations's new fragrance "Phoebe". Ridge asked Rick to be his best man as a way to end the tension between them for Brooke's sake. Phoebe confronted Rick over his relationship with her mother, hitting on Steffy and his vendetta against her father. The argument continued into Rick's car where Phoebe said Rick ruined her life and told him to let her out of the car. When Rick didn't she grabbed the wheel and pressed the gas pedal and Rick lost control as the car it ran off the road. Rick managed to walk to Eric's house and got help from Ridge, who had gone outside to call Phoebe.
Phoebe woke up and began to sing the song she wrote for Ridge and Brooke's wedding then she died in Ridge's arms as he cried out in horror at the site of Phoebe's death. Rick watched from behind Ridge and began crying when Phoebe died. Soon after, he took up a relationship with Phoebe's sister, Steffy.
As of Late January 2009 Rick went behind Forrester Creations and accepted a job with Jackie M becoming their new president. Also, he sent his own father's new fashion line to Jackie M via e-mail, which they promptly knocked off and showed. This infuriated his family. Rick and Steffy were caught by Stephanie at the Forrester beach house and she tried to make Rick end the relationship but he refused. Stephanie revealed this to Taylor, who was furious and hurt saying Rick was doing this to get back at her for ending their engagement and Ridge. Rick confessed to his relationship with Steffy and giving the new line to Jackie M to his mother Brooke who was also furious for betraying the family and for his vendetta against Ridge. Eric also discovered Rick's relationship with Steffy and has also made it clear that he disapproves, which could also spell the end of Rick's work at Forrester Creations.
