William Lockhart of Tarbrax was the son of George Lockhart of Tarbrax and Anne Lockhart of Tarbrax, and had a sister Anna, Countess of Aberdeen.

He is an ancestor of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, a member of the British Royal Family.
