Why do they call it the 2000 Guineas?

Why would they call this race the 2000 Guineas? It is not the "equivalent" to the English 2000 Guineas; in fact, it is 2 furlongs longer than all the other races in the world which take that name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.227.1.47 (talk) 14:20, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
