Home sweet home: Shenandoah Valley, Virginia

I am a Museum Studies graduate student with a background in Social Studies education and Early childhood education (specifically implementing the Reggio Emilia approach). I am now pursuing a career in museum technology with a focus on integrating Collections Management and Museum Education. I work part time at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis as a web content specialist and I am a contributing blogger for the New Media Consortium; Wikipedia-museum collaboration is a central component in both of these positions.

As an emerging museum professional and a Wikipedian, I am very interested in Museum-Wikipedia relations and I am very active in Wikipedia:GLAM. I have close affiliations with both The Children's Museum of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Since August 2010 I have served as Wikipedian in Residence at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, a role that I maintain in my current position at the museum.

This is a very simplistic representation of questions museums will have about implementing E-Volunteer programs. These topics each deserve their own discussion.

Research interests

My historical research interest centers on Nicholas II and Alexandra Romanov, their children (Anastasia Nikolaevna, Alexis Romanov, Olga Nikolaevna, Maria Nikolaevna, Tatiana Romanov) the fall of the Romanov dynasty and the Russian Revolution. Broader research interests include Victorian Era Europe and America, the Progressive Era and Theodore Roosevelt, and the "End of Old Europe," ie: the events leading into World War I. I have also been intrigued by the legend of King Arthur and how history and the myth interrelate with the fall of the Roman Empire and medieval Europe.

I've recently been researching the role of Wikipedia in museum settings, combining my background in social studies education with my work in museum studies and museum technology, considering such things as accessibility, museum education, and 21st century technology skills in museum programming and the sharing of collections information with a broader audience.

Quotes that have caught my eye

Although Wikipedia as a product is problematic as a sole source of information, the process of creating Wikipedia fosters an appreciation of the very skills that historians try to teach.
