Sony Entertainment Television, or SET, is a Hindi-language based general entertainment television channel in India. It was launched in October 1995 and is owned by Multi Screen Media Pvt. Ltd. (MSM, formerly SET India Private Limited),[2] a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Sony gained a lot of popularity from shows like Kkusum and Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. Currently, it telecasts some very successful & popular shows like CID and Bade Acche Lagte Hain.

MSM's family of channels in India includes SAB TV, SET Max, Sony Aath, SET PIX, AXN, Animax and recently they have launched a 24 hour Hindi Music Channel Sony MIX, distributed by MSM Discovery Private Limited (a distribution joint venture between MSM and Discovery Communications India). The international feed of SET, branded Sony Entertainment Television Asia, is visible to viewers outside of India.

As of September 1, 2011, the channel has changed its identity by changing its theme and SONY word being inscribed on top of logos of all its sister channels - SAB, SET, PIX, MIX, and MAX.

Competition

Today, SET faces stiff competition from other players in the market, especially STAR Plus, Zee TV, and Colors. In terms of average prime time TVR; Sony Entertainment Television had 3 Shows among Top ten non fiction programs in 2010 while Zee TV and STAR Plus had two Shows. But mostly SET is considered as a tough competitor of STAR Plus. Currently, Sony is the 2nd most watched general entertainment channel followed by Colors and Zee TV.

Logos

Sony Entertainment Television changed its logo three times, but they changed its graphics frequently. From June 16, 2007, all the Sony channels had the same type of graphics but a different colour and different before-serial graphics. But now, It has been declared that SAB TV will have the 2007 graphic. Only Sony Entertainment Television (India), Sony Aath, SET PIX and SET Max graphics would change. Even Now SAB TV is having the 2007 graphic.
