adding new people

- Please refrain from listing a person twice in two categories even though the person may qualify to belong in two categories. Please avoid redundancy.

- Please only add a person that has an article on Wikipedia. That means there should not be any red names in the list. If person don’t have an article, please create one and then add that person to the list.

- The Actors/Actress and Musicians category is getting too big. Please only add notable actors/actress or Musician that got contributed something new or got recognition outside of Bengal. In other words, please don’t add all the popular actor/actress or Musician of Bengal; if so then the list will go forever. Tarikur 18:24, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see anything wrong with adding more people, as long as the article is within the 32 KB limit. Jagged 85 14:53, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Certain people may not have an article of themselves, but may have played a key role and had their name mentioned in an article that is on wikipedia. We should keep them
On another note, if we could all try to alphebetize the categories instead of just randomly adding them that would help with organization. Arnabdas (talk) 19:45, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- I don't know if person like Rafiq Azam, with little achievement, should belong here...76.10.138.226 (talk) 08:33, 25 February 2011 (UTC)probashi[reply]

George Orwell

Claiming George Orwell to be a Bengali is incorrect. The [1] "reference"] provided to support this claims:

This day marks the birth centenary of George Orwell, born 100 years ago on June 25, 1903, in Motihari, then in Bengal. After the partition of Bengal, Motihari became part of Bihar. Orwell is thus a Bengali, Bihari, Indian and an Englishman, and also a Burmese, having worked in Burma as a member of the Imperial Police Service, when Burma was part of India.

A cursory look at the above shows that it doesn't support Orwell's being a Bengali by ethnicity in any way. Rather, the next paragraph clearly mentions his family's ancestry being from Essex, England, and of English ethnicity.

Please provide other references from reliable sources to show Orwell's ethnicity even in part being Bengali. --Ragib 20:23, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've found some red link exists in this entry. Are they really notable?--NAHID 20:54, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most of them. GDibyendu (talk) 04:09, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tibbetibaba

You can include the name of Tibbetibaba among the list of 'Religious figures' in your article. Tibbetibaba was a famous Bengali saint of India whose life was based on both Advaita Vedanta teachings and Mahayana principles.

There is an article on Tibbetibaba in Wikipedia. --Badshah165 (talk) 04:46, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alphabetical Order

PLEASE keep everything in alphabetical order. It avoids us double adding names and keeps it all organized better. 161.185.151.150 (talk) 17:17, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alphabetize

I suggest to alphabetize the entries --Tito Dutta (Talk) 13:50, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have been doing the work. --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 09:43, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New Section For Poet

There are already many entries in "Writers". I suggest a new section- "Poet" Thanks! --Tito Dutta (Talk) 13:59, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:NLIST, we may not list living people in lists of this type unless there is verification that 1) the person fits the list (i.e., is Bengali), and 2) is recognized as important. This can appear on the person's article if they have one; if not, a reference must be added to verify those two things here. I have removed all of the redlinks that were currently here. Honorable Sir , I am a fan of Poet Sandip Goswami. I am not a relative of Mr. Goswami. Poeat Sandip Goswami lives at a small towm Nabadwip which was ancient capital of undivided Bengal. So he is out of lime light. I created a page about Sandip Goswami in facebook. [1] and distributing his great Bengali poems , articles , Inflaming ( philosophy ). Some great magazines in Facebook are shearing poems of Poet Sandip Goswami. About 5,00,000 Bengali people in the world are reading his creation through Facebook with love and respect. I am trying to do my best. Unfortunately Wikipedia does not understand to the value of Sandip Goswami . Poet Sandip Goswami is a silent person and dislikes every advertisement and believes on every great creation in the world. He got Dipendra memorial award by Dipendra Natya academy at Nabadwip . Please try to understand him with love and respect. Earnestly hope that you will give a chance to the supporters of Poet Sandip Goswami. We want true judgement from Wikipedia. Yours faithfully. Sagnik Goswami, Krishnagar, Nadia, West Bengal, India.== Merge ==

I propose to merge the contents of List of people from West Bengal into this article List of Bengalis or to split out all redundant contents into the West Bengali list. Actually, I don't see a purpose for two similar lists (if any at all is necessary) with redundant information. Also, if we have a list for West Bengalis, we would probably also need one for East Bengalis etc. --Matthiaspaul (talk) 10:44, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I oppose - primarily because - all persons mentioned in List of people from West Bengal - are not and cannot be Bengali people. The list includes non-bengali people also, who may have been born in West Bengal. Jethwarp (talk) 07:46, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Support They can be merged, but place of birth, nationality, mother tongue etc. should be mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.201.96.224 (talk) 18:20, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Such a set of information is simply not possible for a list of this length. The real point of this list is just to provide a set of links to other Wikipedia articles; it's too long to include significant details about each person. Qwyrxian (talk) 22:23, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Bad idea. There are Bengalis from outside West Bengal as well. Plus List of people from West Bengal already exists.--Ekabhishektalk 15:52, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - This article gives a list of famous ethnic Bengali worldwide. West Bengal article gives list of famous people from West Bengal. It is not the same thing. For example, someone who is from West Bengal but is ethnically Gujarati can be listed under West Bengal but not under Bengalis. Someone who is ethnically Bengali who is from America can be listed under famous Bengali but not under West Bengal.Tarikur (talk) 00:08, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
