1978 – VIA Rail assumes all passenger train operations of the Canadian Pacific Railway in Canada.
1989 – The Lexington Avenue (pictured), Roosevelt Island and 21st Street stations on the New York City Subway's 63rd Street Extension open.
1995 – A new London Overground North London Line station is opened on the site of Canning Town station.
2000 – Amtrak upgrades service on the California Zephyr to daily.
