Cara Hunter MLA (born 1995/96) is an Irish SDLP politician currently serving as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for the East Londonderry constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly, a position she has held since 18 May 2020.[1]

Early life

Hunter grew up in the Causeway Coast and Tyrone area and then moved to the United States, attending Simi Valley High School in California and studying journalism at California State University, Northridge and Liverpool John Moores University. In May 2019, she was elected to Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Career

Hunter was elected to Derry City and Strabane District Council in 2 May 2019 and was selected as Deputy Mayor of Derry.[2]

Hunter stood unsuccessfully in East Londonderry at the December 2019 general election.[3] She was coopted onto the Northern Ireland Assembly after the death of John Dallat in May 2020.[4][5][6][7] She is the SDLP's mental health spokesperson.[8]
