Object history Relief, connu depuis le début du XVIIe siècle et qui avait appartenu à la collection Borghèse, fut découvert sur la Via Appia : il pourrait provenir du Triopeion, vaste complexe funéraire construit, au IIe siècle après J.-C., par Hérode Atticus ; en 1807, Napoléon Ier acheta pour le Louvre cet ensemble auprès de son beau-frère, le prince Camille Borghèse (1775 - 1832).
