Notes Like most or all of Ramsay's portraits, he did most of it, then farmed out finishing of the cloth to van Aken. (Source: [1], among others. The tartan worn is the Tullibardine district pattern, found in 5 other portraits; later used as the Murray of Tullibardine clan tartan [2]. This white roses are a Jacobite symbol.)
