A closeup of the illuminated letter P in the 1407AD Latin Bible on display in Malmesbury Abbey, Wiltshire, England. It was hand written in Belgium, by Gerard Brils, for reading aloud in a monastery.

The illumination is a capital letter P since the letters following are ETRUS, making the word PETRUS (Peter in Latin).

The text is the beginning of the First Epistle of Peter and reads:

epistola beati iacobi apostoli

cipit epistola beati petri apostoli prima

Petrus apo
stolus ihe
su christi ele
ctis adue
nis disper
sionis pon
ti galaciae capadocie asye et
