Talk:List of best-selling Dreamcast games
Moved to draft
[edit]I reviewed this list, and saw that many entries were unsourced, used unreliable sources, or had sales figures that were not in the source given. By the time I was done reviewing, it didn't seem like there was enough to justify a stand-alone article. (Probably why it took 20+ years for someone to create it. I don't think there's enough for an article here.) Sergecross73 msg me 01:21, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Scope of article
[edit]Like I previously stated, there is no Wikipedia policy that explicitly forbids using a different number in this article. The fact that other stuff exists in other articles is not a good enough reason to change it. Editorial discretion is permitted when unique circumstances exist for one article, that don't exist for other articles. There are reliably sourced numbers that have been published and should be used to inform the reader of the best-selling DC games during the limited lifespan of the DC console. - For what it's worth, some pages have over a hundred entries, while others have only about a dozen. 98.228.137.44 (talk) 02:34, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
RFC on inclusion cutoff
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived record of a request for comment. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
There was some dispute over what the cutoff for inclusion should be. Other pages listed on Template:Best-selling video games have a minimum of 1 million copies sold/shipped for inclusion. However, it was argued here that this page should have a lower minimum due to the shorter lifespan/low performance of the console. Should the minimum requirement be 250,000 or 1,000,000?2601:249:9301:D570:2871:2734:7DEE:FBF4 (talk) 03:51, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- 250,000: Considering the comparatively lower sales of Dreamcast games, I think that a cutoff of 250,000 units is reasonable. If the cutoff were moved up to 1,000,000, there would only be five items left in the list. Even at the current cutoff, this list seems to be the shortest of the Lists of best-selling video games by platform. HenryMP02 (talk) 06:28, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
- My vote would be for 250,000. This console is more of an exception than the rule, so I have no qualms extending the cutoff for it. Useight (talk) 19:02, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- 250,000 per my reasoning in the section above. And as Useight correctly points out -
this console is more of an exception than the rule
. Isaidnoway (talk) 20:29, 16 May 2024 (UTC) - 250 thousand, status quo as Henry MP02 said, if the cutoff was 1 million there would only be 5 items on the list; way to small for any list page. Unnamed anon (talk) 00:19, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
Missing Games
[edit]Sakura Wars 4 is listed, using this citation: https://web.archive.org/web/20090504132503/http://www.japan-gamecharts.com/dc.php
Going by that, VF3 and and Sakura Wars 3 should be added. It also has a differenet number for Sega Rally 2 than listed.80.192.187.151 (talk) 22:11, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
