Choosing an article

[edit]

I saw the article you chose over on User:Haitongzhang/Choose an Article and I saw on User:Haitongzhang/Evaluate an Article that you appear to be leaning toward work on Mount Emei for the class.

As I mentioned in class, I'm going to asses your work on the Wikipedia assignment in terms of whether you can raise the quality of the article by one quality class on Wikipedia's content assessment scale. That means that it's really going to be easiest if you do as I suggested and choose a true stub article. My sense is that Mount Emei is quite developed and it's going to be hard. I think Samantabhadra (Bodhisattva) is a bit better, but also more developed than I'd really recommend. Of the three you suggested, twice-cooked pork seems the easiest.

I do think that any of the three are possible, but it will simply be more work to improve the Start-class articles you've selected. I'm happy to talk more if that's helpful. —mako 23:45, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with upload of File:南高logo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:南高logo.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Your Draft

[edit]

I looked over your draft at User:Haitongzhang/Nanchong Senior High School. First of all, it's a ton of work! Congrats on that.

Two quick responses right off the bat:

  1. I noticed that you created it in your sandbox, not in the live version of the article. Remember that the point of this assignment is to interact with the Wikipedia community so the priority should be to get this into the live version ASAP.
  2. My reaction to the text itself is that while it has as bunch of great information. It has some pretty big issues with WP:TONE and what Wikipedians call "WP:PUFFERY." Basically, it's all about #1 this, and top #100 that. It sounds (to me at least) like it's written by a person who is a fan or a booster of the organization, not by a neutral and disinterested person.
  3. I have some lingering questions about whether and how many of the references are to third-party reliable sources that are fully independent of the subject.

I would like you publish this on Wikipedia ASAP but I also think if you copy it in the current form, it might be deleted, mostly for the second issue. If you can, it would be good to find a little bit of time for the two of us to meet to talk through these issues and figure out how we're going to get this live on Wikipedia ASAP. —mako 01:30, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:南高logo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as the web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the direct/bare URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 14:25, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
