WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

[edit]
Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Thank you for quality articles such as Ram Narayan, for letting us know about topics as diverse as Hawaii House Bill 444 and Balderschwang Yew, for your modest user page, for diligent reviewing and copy-editing, "nicely fine-tuning important articles and realizing the power of a well-chosen (or well-omitted) word", - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Rose cultivars

[edit]

Hello Hekerui,
As you do a lot of editing on roses, I wanted to tell you that I'm just trying to work a bit on the rose articles (mainly the cultivars), taking the book Roses as a guideline to be a bit more systematically in my 'improvement-approach' (I'd like to get its score up from 1.9 - perhaps even from a stub to start book?). If you are interested, I'd be glad for help & comments.

Sorbus aucuparia

[edit]

I have had a look at the article Sorbus aucuparia and think it is nearly ready for GAN. The things I noticed that need attention include finding references for a few unreferenced statements such as "It has naturalized in America ..." and the coats of arms paragraph. The article could have a Taxonomy section with advantage. You need to add imperial equivalents to the metric measurements.

The lead needs some attention. The second and third paragraphs are very good but the first mentions several things that are not referred to in the body of the text and need to be added there. The English in the article is mostly good but there are a few places where the idiom is not quite right or the text does not flow smoothly. I guess I can help here by doing some copyediting for you. Let me know. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:21, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Help with political consultant bio

[edit]

Hi there, I came across your name in the list of members of the Politics and government work group of WikiProject Biography and wondered if you'd be able to help me. I've been looking for editors to assist with some updates to the biography for political consultant and former chief of staff to Sarah Palin during her vice presidential campaign, Tucker Eskew. An editor from WikiProject Politics had suggested finding an editor who has worked on or is interested in politics-related biography articles, hence my reaching out to you. I have a conflict of interest, since I'm working on behalf of Mr. Eskew's firm, Vianovo, so I don't want to make any edits to the article myself. Instead, I'd like for a disinterested editor to review what I've proposed and make the changes if they're ok. If you have a little time and are able to help, my full request is on the article's Talk page. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:50, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hekerui, so sorry I missed your reply on Tucker Eskew until now! Thanks very much for looking at the material I'd suggested adding to the article. I know this is a pain, but to avoid any suggestion of impropriety in the future, I avoid making direct edits to articles myself, so I wonder if you would be so kind as to make the addition to the article for me? Thanks again, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:18, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Hekerui, I wanted to let you know that I've posted a new note on the Tucker Eskew Talk page with some additional changes. I hope you'll be to take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:36, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Narcissus

[edit]

I'm not sure I fully grasp the meaning of your comment about the Narcissus page being too intimidating for review. It seems to me that it comes down to - either the page meets GA, or it doesn't. If it does we can flag it, if it doesn't then there there is work to do before resubmitting. If it helps at all, one plant expert who visited the page left a comment that it was already far beyond GA. I hope this helps a bit. --Michael Goodyear (talk) 17:49, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My response to your pst at WP:AN

[edit]

I guess I was not clear on what you were asking when I responded the AN thread. Your first sentence of your post there was "I contest the non-admin closure of Monica Beverly Hillz by User:Sam Sailor." That appears to be that you are contesting the closure of the AFD. You ended with "Would an admin please check this out?" So I checked it out and replied with my thoughts on the AFD. I see now that what you weren't really contesting the close itself but that a non-admin closed it and what you were asking for is an admin to undo the close and reclose it. Not sure why we need the bureaucracy of undoing a close and reclosing with the same outcome. There is an essay that says a non-admin should not close controversial AFDs (not that I am saying this is controversial because I do not think it is), but it is only an essay. Why should anyone jump through those hoops? -- GB fan 15:43, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Cecil Bothwell

[edit]

The article Cecil Bothwell has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

BLP of non-notable councillor of town. Previously speedily deleted.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Any interest in Stephanie Cutter article?

[edit]

Hi Hekerui, I noticed you were interested in biographies of politicians on WikiProject Biography. Would you have any interest in the requests I made of the Stephanie Cutter article? Though not an elected official, she has certainly worked in politics for a long time. I am trying to follow the conflict of interest process so I'm not making any of these edits myself and would love if I could get some thoughts on these requests. I've tried to ensure I only use the best available sourcing and to make the text as neutral as possible, so hopefully these requests are easy asks. Please let me know! Old Reference Question

[edit]

Hallo. A long time ago (2013 here) you added a line with a reference to Sorbus aucuparia. "In the Prose Edda, the Norse god Thor saves himself from a rapid river created by the giantess Gjálp by grabbing hold of a rowan, which became known as "Thor's protection"." The reference was "McTurk 1997, p. 205". I found another reference that supports what you wrote and put that in the current version of the page, but do you happen to remember the book or journal where McTurk was writing? I'd like to have both references in the article if possible.

Thanks, MtBotany (talk) 20:39, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It's at the bottom of the page you linked under references. Hekerui (talk) 09:42, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What is “DYK nom discussion”?

[edit]

In the revision history of the rose cultivar MEIclusif I read this: ”Hekerui moved page Rosa 'Meiclusif' to Rosa 'Line Renaud' over redirect: change name per DYK nom discussion”.

Please tell me what “DYK nom discussion” means. Thanks Jan Arvid Götesson (talk) 06:37, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I now see earlier posts on this page that mention “Did you know?” So no I know DYK = Did you know. I’ll try to find I have found that discussion. Jan Arvid Götesson (talk) 06:42, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Warhammer Fantasy Novels

I saw the pretty amazing work you did on the Warhammer Fantasy Novels page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Warhammer_Fantasy_novels). I was wondering how you were able to find novels that weren't listed on the Black Library site? How did you make the list so comprehensive? DTMS9999999 (talk) 04:55, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
