Etymology

From pickpack (bag and baggage), originally from pack (baggage; supply). According to SAOB attested since 1620.

Compare with the rhyming structure of hipp som happ (willy-nilly), krimskrams, mischmasch, sicksack, sliddersladder, snicksnack, tingeltangel, virrvarr.

Compare with Danish pik og pak, Norwegian pikk og pakk, and German mit Sack und Pack.
