The Charicific Valley Natural Reserve, better known as simply the Charicific Valley (Japanese: リザフィックバレー Lizafic Valley), is an animated series-exclusive location in Johto. It is located between Violet City and Azalea Town.
The Charicific Valley is a place where many Charizard live. In the Japanese version, they are referred to as the guardian deities of the area, while in the dub, the Charizard are simply training in the valley to grow stronger. It is distinguishable by its rock formation in the shape of a giant Charizard. The only known human who lives in the valley is Liza, who, along with her Charizard, Charla, protects the valley from danger.
Ash left his Charizard here to train when he was heading through the Johto region. Noticing how much his Charizard enjoyed spending time in the valley, and noticing that he was one of the weaker Charizard there, Ash decided to leave him in the valley so he could train. Since Charizard was left here to train, he became very powerful, learning many new attacks, including Dragon Breath, Overheat, Steel Wing, Wing Attack, Slash, and Dragon Tail. He also formed a relationship with Charla.
In Spell of the Unown: Entei, Charizard saw a television broadcast watched by Liza, depicting Ash's mother being kidnapped in Greenfield. Seeing his Trainer in trouble, Charizard departed to help him.
The valley was seen in a flashback in The Fires of a Red-Hot Reunion!, when Ash recalled how he left Charizard. Following Charizard's travels with Ash in Unova, he decided to stay at Professor Oak's Laboratory instead of returning to Charicific Valley.
