Horacio (Japanese: ハヤテ Hayate) is a recurring character in Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon. He is a rival of Sophocles.

History

In Mounting an Electrifying Charge!, Horacio entered the Charjabug race as the leader of the Red Comet team with his Shiny Charjabug and his brothers Dana and Yansu. He was certain that his Charjabug's top-class equipment and Speed-increasing nature would allow him to win the race with ease. During the race, he constantly mocked Sophocles and his own Charjabug. He also kept yelling at his brothers and insisted they keep pushing on, despite the fact that his Charjabug was getting exhausted from all the obstacles it had to face during the race. Eventually, Horacio's Charjabug got stuck when it was unable to climb an ice-covered slope. Sophocles's team eventually won the race, much to Horacio and his brothers' dismay.

Horacio's rivalry with Sophocles

In Evolving Research!, Horacio and his brothers arrived at Vast Poni Canyon. There, he challenged Sophocles to a race to see who could obtain a legendary "Bug Stone" that he believed could evolve any Bug-type. Due to Sophocles's fear of the dark, he struggled to get through a cave, allowing Horacio to easily get ahead and make his way to a rope bridge that led to the Bug Stone. Horacio tried crossing the bridge, only for it to collapse underneath his feet, leaving him and Charjabug to hold onto it for safety. Sophocles's own Charjabug subsequently evolved into a Vikavolt and carried Horacio and his Charjabug to safety, before retrieving the Bug Stone. Afterwards, Sophocles gave the Bug Stone to Horacio, only for it to not work when he tried it on his Charjabug. He then learned that Charjabug evolve into Vikavolt with the canyon's special magnetic field, not an Evolution stone. Horacio then vowed to train and evolve his Charjabug so they could face Sophocles in a Vikavolt race one day, before taking his leave.

In A High-Speed Awakening!, Horacio participated the Vikavolt race to settle his score with Sophocles. It was also revealed that his Charjabug had evolved into Vikavolt during his time at Vast Poni Canyon. Eventually, he lost the race and congratulated Sophocles for beating him once again before vowing to have a rematch with him someday.

Character

Horacio was arrogant and condescending, often boasting of his father's money and obtaining exclusive things. He is often flanked by his two brothers. In Mounting an Electrifying Charge!, he believed his Charjabug's top-class equipment and Speed-increasing nature would allow him to win the Charjabug race with ease. He was also a bad sport, mocking Sophocles and his Charjabug. He completely disregarded the well-being of his Pokémon, by not allowing his Charjabug to take a break during pit stops, resulting in Charjabug being too exhausted to continue and allowing Sophocles's own Charjabug to race ahead. This was seen again in Evolving Research!, when he arrived at a bridge with the Bug Stone at the other side. He disregarded Sophocles's warning about the bridge being unstable and continued on, resulting in the bridge collapsing, and he had to be saved by Sophocles's newly evolved Vikavolt.

By A High-Speed Awakening!, Horacio appeared to have been humbled. After he lost to Sophocles in the Vikavolt race, he offered his rival a friendly handshake. He also learned the value of fair play, as seen during the race, where he had his Vikavolt go back to help Sophocles's Vikavolt after the latter saved it from Team Rocket's clutches. Later, after everyone's Vikavolt were freed, he resumed the race at the same time as everyone else.
