Effect
Hostile Environment increases the chance of inflicting the burn, freeze, poison or bad poison status conditions if the move has a secondary effect of causing these conditions. The skill can range from Hostile Environment 1 to Hostile Environment 9, with higher numbered skills resulting in a greater increase in the chance of inflicting these conditions. The chance is calculated according to the below formula.
The chance of inflicting the status condition is reduced for moves which target more than one opponent. The overall chance is reduced to two-thirds per target if the move targets two Pokémon; while the overall chance is halved per target if the move targets three Pokémon.
Hostile Environment 10 is a skill only available on certain opponents. It does not take into account the above formula and will guarantee inflicting a status condition when the move hits.
