Wikidata:Property proposal/fishery for
harvested organism(s)

Motivation
editI am creating items for fisheries for particular organisms, and there does not seem to be a good way currently to link the item for the fishery to the organism(s) sought by the fishery. Existing items use product, material, or service produced or provided (P1056) but this is not really correct. The fishery catches one or more species, rather than a particular product that the catch may be turned into. Taxa are not instances of products, so one gets constraint violations when a taxon is used as the value for product, material, or service produced or provided (P1056). A better and more precise statement is that a particular fishery is a fishery for a particular taxon or for particular organisms known by a common name. Discussion
edit- Support but would prefer a lot if it is generalized to any kind of harvesting industry to cover e.g. vineyard (Q22715) and rubber plantation (Q97384443). Something like "harvests organisms of taxon" or anything like that. A description could be "the taxon or common name for the organism(s) or part thereof that are harvested by this particular enterprise" TiagoLubiana (talk) 17:52, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- I would support "harvests organisms of taxon", that was a really good idea. Ainali (talk) 21:59, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- "harvests organisms of taxon" is a bit awkward and omits items that aren't coded as taxa (the items that have instance of organisms known by a particular common name (Q55983715)). How about "organism(s) harvested"? or "harvested organism(s)"? rubber plantation (Q97384443) is not a good example, because the rubber tree is grown, but not harvested. The latex inside is what is harvested, by tapping it: "latex is harvested by slicing a groove into the bark of the tree at a depth of one-quarter inch (6.4 mm) with a hooked knife and peeling back the bark" (Cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_tapping). - @TiagoLubiana, Ainali: I've generalized the property and added some new, non-fishery examples. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 00:21, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Sounds good enough. I'd argue "harvest organisms of taxon" is more precise, but meaning is clear from usage. I reafirm and increase my support. I'd prefer it to include also harvesting parts of organisms too. Maybe an alias "harvest parts of organism" to include plantations, orangery (Q952885) and the like? TiagoLubiana (talk) 00:32, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Also, a good opportunity to eliminate some "of (P642)" qualifiers (see https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Lucas_Werkmeister/P642_considered_harmful by @Lucas Werkmeister: and see orangery (Q952885) and oyster farming (Q780811) --TiagoLubiana (talk) 00:32, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

@UWashPrincipalCataloger, TiagoLubiana, Ainali, Lucas Werkmeister: Done Now harvested organism(s) (P10960). I limited the number of examples and added two of my own (poultry farming (Q861182) and fungiculture (Q2067736)), one with a clear informal group of organisms harvested and one with non-animal organisms. --Lymantria (talk) 07:31, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
@Lymantria: Thank you. The kelp fisheries example above that I included was intended to show one with non-animal organisms. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 17:36, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
- @UWashPrincipalCataloger: I'm sorry I missed that. Lymantria (talk) 06:37, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
